Example: "You can't say Dumbledore is gay! It wasn't shown in the books so it doesn't count." Yeah but the books are from a child's POV *and* when would that have come up in a discussion with Harry?

If you would really like to use this example, please explain to me how this applies to Half Blood Prince, where Harry is a 16 year old who has long conversations with Dumbledore that aren't about classes or school, or Deathly Hallows, where Harry is a 17 year old explicitly investigating Dumbledore's private life and relationship with Grindelwald.

I don't think that you can't say that Dumbledore is gay. Just, can we please take that for what it's worth - as something that she chose not to put in the books, and said afterwards? I appreciate that she's well-intentioned, and I don't think it's a huge deal, necessarily, but that's what it is.

Yes, when a student hits 16 it's always times for his head teacher/mentor to start telling him about his sex life.

I notice canon was able to go into other teachers love lives - we know Hagrid, Lupin, and Snape's sexualities. I wonder what the difference is...?
