Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

If I don't give you permission to take my photograph, then you're a creep--or too A-A-ANXIOUSSSSSS to be outside. End-of. If you think I've got a great outfit, fucking ask if you can take a pic for it because it's nice. Use your goddamn words. You talk about "privacy is dead" but apparently communication is, too. Fuck off.

Background is different, but like. If I'm your focus? Ask. You have a mouth. You have vocal chords. Use them and don't dismiss my opinion on MY PHOTO BEING TAKEN just because you feel entitled to take it.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

Stay at home.

It might be polite to ask, but no one owes you that courtesy.

nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, that can apply both ways, honestly. Nobody owes you a photo.

And simply telling someone to stay at home is dismissive and puts all the responsibility on the person who didn't consent. That isn't fair, in this situation or any other situation.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
You're not wrong, but it's also not the responsibility of other people to accommodate your ideas of privacy when you're in public. You're not entitled to the expectation of privacy in public spaces. To pretend otherwise is naive.

nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
So I guess, by that logic, I can lean on you whenever I want so long as it's not perverted.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's a false equivalence.

Physically infringing on someone's rights constitutes harrassment or possibly assault. Photographs in a vaccuum are not harrassment or assault. They can't harm you.

But I've been ised as a pillow before, so if you want to lean on me, go right ahead.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, let me structure my entire life around entitled dipshits like you. You have no good reason to take a photo of me without asking.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not anymore entitled than you are, dearie. So long as no one is profiting from your image, you have no good reason to complain about your photo being taken when you're in public.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I do. It's my photo. I don't like my photo being taken, even by people I like! I shouldn't have to be a damn hermit because of an entitled asswipe.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
No, actually. If I take the photo, I own it.

You're an entitled fuck. I don't care if you own the photo. I shouldn't have to live in a fucking nunnery to not have my photo taken without permission.

DA.

Try being really fucked up looking and see how you enjoy people laughing and whispering and trying to take sneaky photos of you.

I think I'd rather go back to the days where you had to pay if you wanted a good long stare at the freak show.

ayrt

That genuinely sucks, but that's just a facet of life nowadays.

NAYRT but I’m plenty ugly, and while I don’t wish it on you, I do want to ask if you understand what it’s like to know pictures of you are floating around online with captions like “too ugly to fuck even in the dark”, “I’d kill myself if this were me,” etc.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck off, honestly. If someone was going to blatantly take a picture of me without permission, I can guarantee that camera/phone would get wrecked.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
And you'd likely be sued for destruction of personal property.

That's if you even noticed the photograph being taken.

Since posting a picture without the subject's permission is actually illegal in most places, it would be interesting to see how that lawsuit played out.

And you should probably look up the definition of blatant.

Where? Because it's not illegal according to this article.
"This doesn't necessarily make it illegal for someone to snap your photo without your permission though. For instance, if you're just walking down the street and someone takes a picture, they're well within their rights no matter how violated you might feel. But if someone takes a picture of you without your permission while you're getting ready to shower at the gym, it's against the law."

Snapping a photo and posting a photo on the internet are two different things.

But nice try.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
But if they haven't posted the photo anywhere yet (because you destroyed their camera before they could) then they haven't committed a crime.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
It is a dickhead thing to do, even if it's legal, which I'm not a lawyer and I couldn't say.

Part of being in society is extending reasonable courtesy and consideration to people that we see going around day to day. "Don't randomly and specifically take pictures of people without asking them" is an entirely reasonable courtesy to extend, and an entirely reasonable presumption of privacy to have, in most circumstances.. IDK even why you're so opposed to this.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Because they like to take pictures of [insert whatever sex they're attracted to] to fantasize about, and it not being a creepy photo means they can just go, "lol I was just taking a pic because I like your clothes."

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT—in most situations I agree with you, but sometimes at cons I genuinely do take pics of cosplayers because I like their outfits without first asking permission because I’m cripplingly shy, and I’ve never taken a picture of a cosplayer because I found them sexy. Sometimes I manage to compliment their work, but not always. I don’t mean any harm and the most I’ve done to share those photos is by pulling out my phone and to show friends while saying “isn’t this cool?” I’d never post them anywhere, though.

Re: What's your definition of a creep shot?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-02 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but like. As someone who cosplays? I'm not okay with that. If you ask, sure, I'll let you take a photo. But I've had stalkers before, so it's a hard no for me that people take my pic without permission.

Dude I’m NAYRT, but I’m not rich enough to stay home all the time. I have a job that’s over an hour away by public transit and no car; I go to the laundromat and to get groceries and generally do normal shit. I’m not a celebrity and I’m ugly and I hate when people I know and trust take my picture. Maybe if I was rich enough to get all my groceries delivered and have a home gym I’d hardly ever leave the house. As it is I tend to wander my neighborhood after dark for exercise because there’s less chance of being followed and mocked for blocks for existing while ugly.
