How should I get more light in my room?
My new bedroom, while I love it only has 3 small windows, two huge trees in front, and virtually NO direct sunlight. Until I open my blinds, my room looks like night time. Also, because of the location of the heat vents, regardless of where I put my bed one will be covered.
This would be great in summer with the heat, but right now it makes my room constantly dark and freezing. Even when the rest of the house is warm, my room is cold.
This isn't really great for my depression. Not only do I have to deal with less sun because of winter, I also have to deal with the new room and no sun.
Anyone have any recommendations of what I can do?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)You could get an outlet timer. I have a couple similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Century-Plug-Mechanical-Timer-Grounded/dp/B00MVFF59S/ref=zg_bs_495340_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=S14APG0ERFFDEEQKR03Y
There are also alarm clocks that light up to simulate sunrise, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/AMIR-Simulation-Rechargeable-Multicolor-Dimmable/dp/B071JGYCST/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1541368942&sr=8-20&keywords=sun+alarm+clock+wake+up

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)* plastic window kit sheeting on the window to allow light in, but keep drafts out
* electric heater - I have a Vornado brand one that's very effective and fairly quiet. Also can double as a white noise machine if that helps.
* heavier blankets for the bed - maybe a down alternative duvet, flannel sheets, etc.
* Try one of those tall stand lamps with multiple bulbs that can point in different directions. If your room is small, you may only need one. They're great at casting indirect light upwards and reflecting it off of walls so it's illuminated without being glaring.
Re: How should I get more light in my room?
Fortunately, my windows don't have drafts. They are fairly new and double paned. So that is one bonus.
I should invest in a new duvet. Or maybe one of those warming blankets.

Re: How should I get more light in my room?
I thought about even getting a snuggy for when I am lounging around! I think they make like heavier ones.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)Can you move rooms? Can you get the trees trimmed? Would you want to swap out the blinds for something that lets more light through or do you need the light blocked to sleep? If you have lighting, do you feel better with certain colour lights?
And a weird one: did you move away from your pet/s?
I thought my new place was freezing before I got my dog. Turns out I was just depressed and I had no one to talk to.
Re: How should I get more light in my room?
I have an overhead light and desk lamp. One is always on because my room is so dim. Not really sure about different colored lights. I've never really experimented!
No, the cats came with me. Though, they have been jerks lately while adjusting to the move. :)

(Anonymous) 2018-11-04 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)My room decor has helped me not feel like I live in an oven. I have soft fairy lights and a big print of a forest. You could try having more things that feel summery or warm and bright to you? I've seen people do fake windows and skylights for basements. Maybe you could check out the DIY subreddit?
I'm partial to having a heated throw to take the chill off my bed before I climb in, but maybe you'd prefer a heater with a fan if you prefer your room to feel dry? I'm not sure what your winters are like.
I'm glad you have your cats!

Re: How should I get more light in my room?
(Anonymous) 2018-11-05 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)I'd say painting the room a brighter colour would help as well, but I'm not sure if it that's an option... Otherwise, light coloured paintings, and/or mirrors, maybe. I'll emphasize mirrors though, as they both reflect light, and enlarge the room. But if wallspace is limited, hanging them in corners, offsetting windows, would work well, if it's available.
Plants also bring life into a room. An indoor greenhouse, along with respective lighting, shouldn't take up much spare in and of itself. If not, then even your favourites of the fake variety might help.
And if all else fails, a nightlight. They're rather versatile, and come in pretty much every shape and size.
I just hope any of this helps;; You deserve a place that makes you happy!
