If I could edit the post, I would specify "in your personal life". That might help.

I entered a contest that had four rounds. I got second place in round one, was slightly below the middle of the scores for round two, and the third round I got second-to-last place. The fourth round scores just came out and I'm second-to-last again. It might not sting as much if I hadn't done so well in the first round, but it does. I don't know what I did right the first time or why I couldn't replicate it after that. It was all so subjective. (Which is all the more reason I really shouldn't care. I wish I weren't such a sore loser.)

I really need to find a LGBTQ-friendly hairdresser or something.

Not being able to get the kinds of men that I am attracted to because they think my face isn't pretty.

And also because they're gay and I'm a woman.

Have you asked yourself, why are you attracted to them?

I mean, not to make anyone the bad guy (often there isn't one and folks are just mismatched), but do you find yourself always crushing after the type of guys who tell you this kind of thing? I'm not gonna be a dick like the kind of person being talked about further down the thread and say "aim lower" since it's useless advice, but I think it's important to ask yourself what you value about that person.

I'm 28 and still haven't figured out what I want to "do" with my life. I mentioned to my dad that I always wanted to be a nurse and now he keeps saying that I should go for it and seems really excited about the idea, so I want to do it for him, but I have so many depression/anxiety issues I don't know if I'd be able to cope.

I just feel like I'm wasting every day trying to decide which direction to go. I have friends my age and slightly younger who are achieving so much and doing their parents proud and I feel like such a letdown.

I’m in the same boat - 28 and trying to get my life together in the face of depression/anxiety while I feel like all my friends are doing so much more with their lives.

Thank you for posting this it’s good to know I’m not the only person whose struggling.

If it makes you feel better, I'm a decade older and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Hell, I didn't get what qualifies as a "real job" until I was your age. I do get that feeling though, like everyone younger than you just has their shit together, so "why can't I?"

After seeing the “what are you doing for the holidays?” thread, I’m sad that I’m too weird and scared of people to make close friends, and too weird, scared of people, and ugly to find a boyfriend, and 30 years younger than my youngest (of 2) blood relatives.

So eventually my holidays and pretty much every day I’m not at work, I’ll be alone except for my pets unless I, I dunno, get a brain transplant. I guess at least I hopefully won’t be spending holidays at the hospital now that my mom’s dead and doesn’t keep hurting herself all the time. Over the last coiple years of her life I spent her birthdays and most holidays cleaning up blood, shit, vomit, and piss and/or sitting in hospital chairs.

Now I can just cook and open presents for myself and cry until I take the side dishes out of the oben and go to my aunt’s brothers’ place.

...also I hate how full of maudlin self-pity I get when I’m on my period. Jfc, self, lighten up.

How many people are believing the GOP lies about the Arizona and Florida elections being “stolen”. I’m scared that with all the fear mongering that come Election Day 2020 some right wing nut job is going to shoot up a polling place because they think they’re letting “illegals” vote.

Have you ever had a friend tell you that you only want what you can't have (she was implying that I can't get cute guys and should aim lower)?

Re: What are you disappointed about?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I can't stand people with that mindset. I mean, yes, no one should ever act entitled to a specific type (or really, to anybody at all), but how in the hell is "you should aim lower" any kind of solution? It's still placing importance on *looks*/other superficial stuff while pretending it isn't about that at all.

Re: What are you disappointed about?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
DA
How is looks superficial? You have to like the way someone looks. You are not going to want to go out with someone otherwise.

Re: What are you disappointed about?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-12 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT—looks are superficial, though, in that they’re the first thing you notice/can notice about a person when you meet them irl. You don’t have to spend any time getting to know a person to know what they look like. But being the most superficial/easily understood part of a person doesn’t mean looks aren’t important when deciding whether or not to date/like someone.

AYRT- She was trying to tell me that I'm ugly and I shouldn't bother with anyone cute. That's the meaning of aim lower. I later found out she was being a wingman for her ugly friend who couldn't get laid. D: D:
