They're just little figurines. Idk, I don't get the big deal over them either, but I dont think you need to make a federal case out of it.

People are really ... petty? Picky? Over them. The biggest people who hate them are Funko fans themselves.

They do all look the same. I've never bought one, though I've been sorely tempted to buy the Sauron and Witch King of Angmar ones because they are adorable. But different people have different tastes. Just because they don't match your personal aesthetic doesn't mean the fandom's aesthetic is declining.

I personally don't like them at all but I don't see where they represent a decline in geek culture.

LOL! That's quite a reaction.

I love the level of detail in the couple I have. But I haven't really seen a lot of them up close, so I can't judge them as a whole in that regard.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-16 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, this is totally the demise of "geek culture". Toys. Why can't we go back to the day of pogs and Swatch watches?

I think Funko's of non-human characters are actually super cute!

The humans are pretty meh overall (some are nice, though) and I would prefer it if they did more in the Rock Candy style. Those are pretty great!

I agree- when I found out they were just figurines, I was genuinely surprised. I always thought they had a purpose to some game or console, and that was why they all generally looked the same...
I mean acton figures and dolls/plushies at least have a purpose, given they can be displayed and actually look like the given character, or snuggled up to/play with.
The name Funkopops, I'd at least expect some kind of candy inside...

Looking like they do I doubt you can really take them out of the box and remember which one's which. They're like Lego toys, but those you can at least build and play with;;

They remind me a bit of chibi fanart.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Cute, but all they really had in common with the characters was (questionably) similar hair color and wardrobe.

I wish people would just calm tf down about funkos. They're fun and they're cheap and they're easily accessible. Some people like them, some don't. Who cares.

lbr, that's why they're so affordable they're easier to make. if it gives some tiny fandoms some merch or collectibles when there otherwise wouldn't be, i think that's great.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I have to question my fellow human beings for the popularity of these ugly overpriced pieces of shit.

they're about as expressive as Parker House rolls.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I find them easy to ignore.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
1. I think Funko Pops are ugly as fuck.
2. I don't think they're uglier than a lot of other merch that's popped up through the years, and they're definitely cheaper, cover more fandoms, and are more wildly available than many.
3. I do think they've either drowned out or discouraged the distribution of more creative/higher quality merch, but that's down to marketing and availability more than "lowered fandom aesthetic."
4. Pretentious much?

lmao "uneasiness"

It's true, funkos represent a deeply disturbing social trend towards lighthearted enjoyment of varied media. I too am filled with foreboding.

I don't like them either, but I find the Bearbrick figures 10x worse.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
funko's other series are better looking than the pops imo, (though I have more of a problem with how square their heads are and how tiny the women's bodies are), but I don't get the intense hatred for them. I can understand not wanting a Hatsune Miku pop or a Star Wars pop because there are hundreds of other, better-looking figures for those fandoms out there, but there are some obscure ass pops of cult movies and tv shows you're never going to find merchandise for otherwise.

The ones for live action characters are god-awful, but the ones for animated characters tend to be a little better. Animated characters tend to have very distinctive coloration and design, which translates better to the minimal chibi style of Funko pops. Also, they are affordable, and much more easily available than the majority of the better figures.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-17 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
THEY'RE TOYS. Get over yourself.
