And I know what it's about now, but for a long time I thought The Good Place was just a sitcom about a quirky neighborhood, no supernatural elements whatsoever.

Homestuck, for... however long Homestuck has been popular.

I actually tried to read a summary of what it's about and I still don't know.

Some kids play a co-op game that, as it turns out, causes the world to end and opens up portals to the world of the game. Once within the world of the game, they find that their 'session' is crossing over with another 'session' (that's where the grey aliens with the horns come into things), and because things have gotten very messed up, the only way any of them is gonna get out of this is to work together to beat the game.
Things get way more confusing from there, but that's about the best explanation I can give.

I think there is dancing involved? I get it's a game but don't know why this one in particular is so popular.

Not exactly the same. But I have no idea how the people on 90 Day Fiance don't get deported. Since marriage for immigration benefits is the one reason you can't legally marry in this country. If the government even suspects that you married someone just for the immigration benefits they'll deport you.

Never actually watched the show. but I see the ads all the time, and it makes me wince.

I've only caught a few episodes, but it's my understanding that the couples are trying to secure legal immigration BEFORE they marry, rather than the other way around. I know in one of the episodes I saw, one half of one couple was discussing with her dad & stepmom the possibility that her dad would sponsor her boyfriend/fiance for legal immigration, and her dad was pointing out that if their marriage failed, he'd still be on the hook to sponsor him for however many years the sponsorship was meant to last.

Then again, a later episode I saw made it seem as though the same couple were looking for her to immigrate to his country rather than him immigrating to the US.

Wait, the show is about people getting married so they don't get deported? I thought it was just a "people marry someone they haven't known that long, and wacky hijinks ensue as they come to learn things about them that they should've known before getting married" type thing. Interesting.

Somehow I got the idea that these were couples who had already met and wanted to get married, but the one who isn't American can only get a limited tourist visa and so that's all the time they have to figure out if the marriage is a good idea, so it's not *just* for the benefits. I have no idea how the whole thing works (I thought tourist visas could be a lot longer than 90 days) and I never actually watched the ddhow.

Westworld. All I know is there are robots, apparently lots of shocking twists, and I think lots of sex/nudity, although I'm not sure how "nudity" works with robots. And that pretty much everyone hated the most recent season.

I've never watched it either but I've seen gifs and so forth
