Notes:

Okay, so here we go. Just a little thing, but fun, plus you get stuff. :D

And before anyone asks, don't worry, we don't want to know who has like the deepest, darkest secret or anything like that. The point of this is to boost [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets watchers/participation. We've tried to get word about the comm out there, but you know, we need your help. And so, a referral contest!

How this works:

1. Grab people to join/watch/participate in the comm. Spam f-lists, post in comms that might be relevant, anything you can think of! New people submitting at least one secret is preferred, but hey, watchers are nice too!
2. Have them comment here with your lj username. They have to be logged in, but all comments are screened, so don't worry.
3. At the end of the month, March 31st, we'll count up how many people were referred by each person, and the top three get prizes. 1st picks first, 2nd picks second, 3rd gets whatever's left, it's pretty simple. :D

Winners get a choice of:

→ $15 LJ gift certificate from [livejournal.com profile] benightedfate. (C'mon! Money!)
→ A choice of graphics/icon set/fan art by [livejournal.com profile] shahnichan. (She's good at it!)
→ Customized LJ layout/profile layout/anything requiring coding by [livejournal.com profile] grayout. Or fanfiction if you want, that works too. *dies* (This is pretty much the "Case gets to be your slave for a day" choice. I'm useful! I swear!)

And that's it. Easy, right? Go! :D

there is no way to tell who wrote shit first and presuming is rather arrogant.

I agree with you, I was put off by how it was worded too.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
oh, agreed wholeheartedly. at this point, it's just a habit of constantly dealing with people who have only played DoC and/or seen AC. a lot of them think they invented the fandom and the older fans tend to get defensive of that, which, to other older fans, comes across as horribly, horribly arrogant. it's just a misconception and i think it's all been glossed over nicely now. huzzah for mediation!

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Again, fuck DoC. And not just its horrid plotline with its fucking stupid character dynamics between Vincent, Hojo, and Lucrecia and craptastic voice acting, but its shitty gameplay with ten billion invisible walls, crappy sniper handling, downright retarded AI, and TWO ENEMY CHARACTER DESIGNS IN THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME.

[identity profile] alaturk.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
there were a lot of LITTLE TINY DETAILS that i liked about it and it at least tried to be more cohesive than say, AC. i wanted to kill myself for the voice acting and i'm having trouble playing ANY 3rd person camera if not for its wonky controls, but overall, i guess i'm glad i actually played it. and, y'know. didn't pay for it.

It had a few decent points, and I liked anytime Vincent was being the way he's supposed to be and not a whiny little bitch, like when he starts talking to himself around level ten or so...

...but overall my impression of the game was total crap. All it needed was Hojo with a curly mustache tying Lu to train tracks.

Fortunately, I work at GameCrazy and get free Hollywood Video rentals so I got it free too.

All it needed was Hojo with a curly mustache tying Lu to train tracks-That's like the best image in the entire world. But to throw my two cents in, before I became the impossible Rufus/Vincent fangirl I did (I'm actually kinda happy that's catching on right now among really awesome fans) and before I had access to the internet, I was a hardcore HojoVin fan, and that was probably the only thing I -rp'd- back in the day, so I really had no clue about anyone 'being in control' of the fandom.

Actually, I still love it. It's just sad that some people would waste time getting angry and hating on new things, when all the new info can just be used to their advantage for characterisation and such. Who cares about other fans, just enjoy yourself and be creative? It's worked for me, anyway! :D

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, for me it has VERY little to do with fans and much more to do with me thinking the new stuff is just complete and utter shit.

I don't want to use the new material for characterization improvement because it's not an improvement; it's just crap.

My favourite character went from a cynical, smartmouth but still aloof guy with a lot of issues AND, HERE'S THE BIG ONE: A RESOLUTION... to a complete emo gothy faggot with a shitty backstory in a shittier game.

So that's why I'm angry.

Sorry if I offend.

Actually, I agree with you there. One of my first thoughts was, "Does VINCENT VALENTINE need a videogame?" and he -didn't-, which is what made things even more upsetting. Complete with the insertion of two random Mary Sues, we know for certain Square-Enix is milking the series for all its worth.

However, it's obviously not going to change anything now that the game exists. Does that change the character we've adored for ten years? I think the game's saving grace was that Vincent -didn't- change from what we saw him in FF7. And that's what I -appreciated-. Though, I could have done completely without what they did to Lucrecia and Hojo. ._. It was just.. guh. I lost all respect for her thanks to it. That's why I'm trying to get back into OGC stuff again, hoping to relive what I liked about them.

So don't worry, you're not alone in that line of thought at all. And please, there's no offending here. Just opinions, right? :)
