I think the majority of fandom will stay on Tumblr. I think NSFW art will move to Twitter.

I don't think so. Everyone I follow is already posting alternate links elsewhere and prepping to move. Many peoples' sfw blogs have been flagged or taken down already.

Mostly I've seen twitter, insta, pixiv, a few links to old DW and LJ communities for some older fandoms, and a lot of emails and discords getting passed around.

The problem is that none of those platforms come close to replicating Tumblr's functionalities

No, but Tumblr didn't replicate LJ's functionalities either. People will adapt.

This is also a good chance for smaller platforms to swoop in and snatch up a huge dedicated userbase.

That very much depends on what functions you are looking for. As someone whose main fandom activities have been text-based discussions and fanfic, tumblr is really not optimal.

Tumblr really isn't optimal for anything beyond posting and reblogging art. I will never understand why fandom decided to migrate there.

I had problems with Tumblr's platform so I left a few years back. Best thing I ever did.

A lot of folks on my dash are prepping other spaces but most aren't actually planning to move. Maybe there'll be enough backlash tumblr'll change it's mind. hahahaha...nobody learned anything from LJ, did they?

Most of the people I follow either have nsfw sideblogs or they post their explicit fanworks on their main. So they can't really risk staying and most already have alternate accounts set up elsewhere since everyone's known this was coming.

So why are they still on tumblr if they saw this coming.

And risk? What are they risking beyond losing their blogs, which, if as you've told us, they've arleady backed up and moved? This makes no sense.

Probably because those other platforms don't have a lot of other fans on them yet so people don't want to spend all their time there shouting into the void? Same reason why Strikethrough was such a clusterfuck. Everyone wants to jump ship bt no one wants to go first.

They're risking losing their blogs, yeah, and their followers/following lists, and any old PMs and convos and so on. I didn't say they'd backed their stuff up? Tumblr's backup feature doesn't work very well and most people have trouble finding or using the alternatives.
