Okay, same.

TBH, I can see this happening as a general trend. There's a limit to how many streaming services people are willing to pay for and I read an article that suggesting torrenting is back on the rise simply because there were already too many. Disney's got some major clout and back catalog material, though... I guess it depends on how many people love their stuff enough to subscribe on top of whatever else they're already subscribed to.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This is basically what I came to comment. I can already only afford one streaming service. No way will I be able to keep up as each company makes their own.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so obvious that - once the technical side of streaming is solved - all of the value is in your back catalog. And once you get to that point, the actual entertainment conglomerates are the ones that have all the leverage and are going to extract all the value. And, obviously, that's going to suck for consumers, and we're not going to do anything about it, because that's what we've made the decision to do as a society. We give them all the money and power.

Agreed. They've seen how successful Netflix is and want to hop on the money train, but they're really shooting themselves in the foot, because the more streaming services there are, the more ppl will go back to torrenting as they just won't be able to afford monthly fees for them all.

The sensible way to go would be to charge Netflix a licensing fee or something, that way both companies will get their money, and everything is in one place for the consumers.

Even if it is available in the UK (I'm guessing it will be, Disney gotta get more of that money) I'm not sure I'd want it for the sake of a couple of shows I'm wary at best over. I guess I'll wait to see reactions from others first.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Pirate all you want. Just don't act like you are doing it for some noble cause. You are cheap.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
OP is cheap, and Disney is evil.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Where is OP acting like they'd do it for a noble cause?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess you will just have to die mad about it friend

Duh.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is it money grubbing to want your content on your own service??

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it not? Especially when it's worse for consumers?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
LOL... Do you think Disney's reason for doing this non-monetary reasons? Like they want their own stuff on their own service just for tidy organizational purposes?

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be getting Disney+. It won't have any R-rated content so I don't have to worry about the kiddos accidentally watching something they shouldn't.

You know... I'm usually one to say if you like something you should support it. However I am fucking sick and tired of every damn streaming site requiring paid subscriptions instead of just having one catch-all (like netflix seems to be the one most people agree on).

I don't wanna pay $10 a month for various streaming services when I usually only wanna watch one thing from them.

Also fuck all the streaming services that don't have a way to disable auto renewal. I remember some having it but they just completely got rid of it so that they can still get cash from people forgetting about their subscription. Fuck this entire system.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If I could get away with torrenting, I would. Our internet now blocks torrenting and also blocks unknown IPs. So I can't even use a VPN. I do download things, though, when I can find them. 2ddl is good for finding things.

I like Disney content but tbh I'm not sure I want to get their streaming service just for a couple of Marvel shows I might want to watch. It's all gonna become too many fish in the pot very swiftly with all these streaming services.

i've clearly been working in electronics retail too long when my first thought is "hey, i have that remote control for my tv too"

Disney is becoming the new Google, I'm genuinely scared. They are getting bigger and bigger and buying more and more companies. This won't end well.

I don't like it either, OP. It fucking sucks that everybody and their grandma's setting up their own streaming service.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm probably going to subscribe to it periodically, same as I do with HBO. I'll wait until The Mandalorean has a month to go, subscribe for a free month, and binge what I want to see.

I have heard rumors that due to Disney's ownership stake in Hulu, it might be cheaper as an add-on there. Which would be nice.

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
honestly i'm glad about it because it will take all the marvel garbage off of netflix

(Anonymous) 2018-12-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
On one hand, Disney doesn't owe it to anyone to hand their content to Netflix, and I hate how Netflix is being portrayed as this best solution everyone should bow to when they're just any other digital company out there trying to make money.

On the other hand...yeah, I'm out there pirating too. I'm cheap, I don't have that much money to spend, and I don't feel like juggling subscriptions every month depending on what I feel like watching.
