False advertising

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
What was false about the advertising?

Yeah, and I wound up enjoying it way more that I thought I would!

(Anonymous) 2019-01-03 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He got too popular. And the twist is kinda dumb.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-03 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this movie too, OP.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-03 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think people dislike the movie because of how it looks, I'm pretty sure the dislike is because of how it ends. I loved the visuals and the use of color. But I guessed the ending well before it was revealed and was disappointed that I was right.

I thought it was fine, but then again, I was like 16 when I watched it. I guessed the ending well in advance, too, but I was still satisfied that it turned out how I wanted.

It was no Sixth Sense, though. Sixth Sense is amazing, and I did *not* guess the ending at the time. My mind was totally blown.

Eh. Sixth Sense to me is all about the reveal. So it sort of ruins it for future viewings. It isn't all that interesting apart from that reveal to me. So I personally say it is overrated.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I just want to say that I liked it.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it and still do. I think it suffered a bit from being misadvertised. I know a lot of people who went in expected some creepy, scary horror movie based on the trailers, and that's not what it is.

I enjoyed it. I thought the visuals were really stunning and the performances were good, and I wasn't particularly bothered by the things that maybe don't hold up to scrutiny.

Eh.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the movie was okay and was fine with the twist itself, but the twist made me question all of Elders decisions. Fricking Edward who knows everything already, who isn't blind, couldn't go himself? What the hell?

Re: Eh.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know this is only a justification... but Edward would be recognizable, right? Wasn't his family's money that bought the land? No one on the outside would recognize Ivy. Shitty reasoning, I know, but if someone saw Edward after however many years, it would be a big deal. To the park rangers, Ivy's just some random girl.

Re: Eh.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Don't they talk about it in the movie? The elders all made a pact to NEVER leave. That may be dumb, but that is why they need to send someone else.

The movie actually manages to still scare me to this day but I’m a major fraidy cat who jumps at the slightest scare.

That said, I rewatched it a while back and was surprised how much I enjoyed Ivy and Lucius as characters and also as a ship. Ivy herself was my favorite part of the film.

I like it, and I'm surprised by how it's still kinda scary even when I know the twists. Some aspects literally don't make sense but man, I just get lost in that JNH score and get emotional anyway.

It's been ages since I watched it, but I remember liking it alright. It just wasn't what I thought it would be. The trailers made it seem like a different type of movie. But I did find it to be lovely to look at.

I think - at least for me, and maybe others - it was the utter and complete stupidity of sending a BLIND GIRL off into the random wilderness in the hopes she could find her way without dying or becoming horribly wounded, figure out WTF when she encountered the world outside, AND get back to them with the right stuff with *no money of any kind* or ID or anything that would help her not be immediately locked up by the authorities.

I just...was so mad at them for being so freaking stupid, I coudln't care.

It was a very neat-looking movie, though.

I hated it when I first watched it because it wasn't at all what I was expecting but on my second viewing I loved it.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The cinematography and use of color was great. Unfortunately, just about every other part of the movie was weak, including the marketing, the premise and the "twist" ending. That's why it gets criticized.

i don't hate this film in particular

i just hate all MKS films because he's a fucking hack

This really needed a fandom label, because trying to look it up based on the text led me down a rabbit hole of MSN and an Indian Nationalist Party.

I loved this movie, still love it. The score is one of my favourites to this day.

Reading the other comments, I'm glad I didn't know anything about it going in, never seen any advertising for it, etc. I just zapped into it by accident one night, not too far into the story, when it aired on TV.

And to me it always made sense why they would send a blind girl - every other seeing person would question the car, the uniform, the radio...she only heard the voice of a man and some strange noises, and wouldn't know any better.
