Red Dwarf - "Justice" and "The Inquisitor"

Both funny and clever, with hints of real threat and a solid scifi theme

At its best, Red Dwarf really was unbeatable.

Seconding Clyde Bruckman. It's sad to me that Darin Morgan's career as a screen writer didn't really go anywhere (unlike, say, Vince Gilligan, who wrote some standout XF episodes and then- well- Breaking Bad happened).

Maybe Darin Morgan just didn't care that much about being a screen writer? He's produced plenty, so at least he's probably doing alright money-wise.

Clyde Bruckman was The X-Files at it's absolute peak. A perfect hour of television.

Midnight, yay~. I always hear people badmouth Midnight, so it's nice when someone else likes it. :)

Best scary episode they have. People kept hyping the angels up to me but I found them so boring. But the monster in Midnight? That was actually terrifying. It would have beaten the Doctor had it not been for the stewardess.

I love most of the angels episodes, but I don't find them scary? If that makes sense.

To me Midnight was scary because there's this monster, but it's not scary because it's ugly or skulking in the dark, but because it was fucking with everyone's minds, and perceptions, and making decent people consider doing terrible things. The psychological horror aspect was much scarier to me than something with fangs or claws.

A lot of my favorite shows I can't pick favorite episodes for, because I like the whole story too much. So I'll just answer for shows where I do have favorite episodes.

Fight The Future is my favorite X-Files episode, but that probably doesn't count since it's, you know, a movie. I'm not even arguing it's the best or anything; it's just my favorite. Objectively, I'd say "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" is probably the "best" episode of the show, and it's probably my favorite actual episode.

I think "The Suitcase" was probably my favorite Mad Men episode (though I might feel different if I rewatched, idk).

"Fight" is my favorite Masters Of Sex episode. I remember feeling like I'd just seen something truly powerful and masterfully done when I watched that ep.

To this day I will defend the first episode of The OC as being legitimately good TV. (The rest of the series can fend for itself.)

I still really like the first episode of Sherlock, "A Study In Pink." Everything else is either meh or cringe.

I think "The Body" and "Once More With Feeling" are my favorite Buffy episodes, each for completely different reasons.

Stargate SG-1: Window of Opportunity.
Frasier: Ham Radio.
Supernatural: Nightshifter, Lazurus Rising.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Hush.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Good Will Haunting and Troll Bride.
Angel: Smile Time.
Brooklyn 99: The Box, Halloween, Halloween Part 3(honestly all B99 episodes are fantastic, it's hard to pick my top faves).
Justice League Unlimited: Flash and Substance, The Great Brain Robbery.
