Some good news today

It's going to take Jayme a long time to recover, but at least she's alive.

I'm so glad she escaped. I hope she recovers well. What a horrifying situation she's been through.

And Alex fucking Jones. Fuck him so hard.

""He seemed like a quiet kid," she (a former teacher) said. "I don't recall anything that would have explained this, by any means.""

People ALWAYS SAY THIS. Seriously. Are people just in denial, or are quiet people out there spontaneously combusting into evilness?

Re: Some good news today

(Anonymous) 2019-01-11 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't tell whether someone is evil based on whether or not they're quiet. The problem is our deep-rooted belief that we can tell whether someone is evil by the look in their eyes (or whatever), and our denial of the idea that we can love someone and they can still be a person who is evil and chooses to do evil things.

Re: Some good news today

(Anonymous) 2019-01-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because people doing shit like this have to naturally be secretive.

Granted, that isn't universal. Plenty of serial killers are well known for being loud mouths.

Re: Some good news today

(Anonymous) 2019-01-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think there has to be at least SOME level of denial involved, because... let's face it, the people who do this kind of thing are usually pretty weird and messed up. You have to be messed up in order to do it in the first place, and I simply can't believe that there aren't any sort of tells beforehand based on my own experience with kids who turned out to be trouble (and not even that sort of level of violent trouble).

I feel like a middle school teacher can't be expected to predict the future like that. They probably reached out to her in hopes of some juicy details or but really she's just doing her job. She can't recall anything that would have explained this but...what exactly is she trying to recall? I think we all imagine people like this to have some history like torturing animals or writing fucked up poems about kidnapping people but life isn't that clear-cut. Plus she probably has a lot of kids.

Anyway I'm glad the girl is alive and the fucker is in custody. I'm not sure why this is my first time hearing this story.

Re: Some good news today

(Anonymous) 2019-01-12 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I was a quiet kid in high school and I totally heard my share of "jokes" that I was hiding evil behind my quietness. Including a girl who wasn't joking (she just didn't like me because she was always getting in trouble for being too loud) when she said "It was the quiet ones who shot up Columbine, you know."

Does anyone have any good examples of people saying "Yeah, that person was always a creepy fucker?" They must exist.

Re: Some good news today

Well, it's definitely not spontaneous evil combustion. I think it's more complicated than simply being in denial, though. Mostly it's just that people aren't very observant and they easily miss red flags. IRL, your mind doesn't jump to "OMG kidnapper/rapist!" or "Holy shitballs, serial killer!" just because someone's a little weird or says something off. LOTS of people are weird and say weird stuff.

When it comes to teachers vs. students or people vs. their co-workers, you just don't know them well at all. Just because you see them every day doesn't mean you have anything more than a superficial relationship with them. You have no idea what's going on inside their head and you're really too busy to find out, tbh. "He was so quiet" is something people say when they don't have any memories of someone that stand out. They weren't exceptional in an either negative OR positive way. That's 99% of the people you meet.

Yet at the same time, people like to think they'd know if someone was an evil bastard. They like to think that they'd somehow... just... KNOW. That's not realistic, but it doesn't stop people from thinking that deep down, they'd figure it out somehow.

Don't click on anything related to the murder/kidnapping case if you don't want to read everyone's theories on how Jayme made the guy do it.

UGH. I think even in cases where that appears to have happened, it's more likely the teenage girls were the ones being manipulated. With maybe some exceptions.

Wow, those are both great!

I hope the Sandy Hook families can sue Alex Jones for every penny he has. What a slimeball.

In Wisconsin, can confirm: Jaymee's story is a breath of good news in a shitty world. Even the sheriff was like "my knees started shaking I was so happy" when he got the report.

Just waiting to find out that this jackass is some kind of incel who could only get a girl by murdering her parents and kidnapping her.

Re: Some good news today

(Anonymous) 2019-01-12 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
my bets are also on entitled incel loser who couldn't get a willing date and needed to capture a child to sculpt into the perfect "pure" waifu.

First off, happy she was found. And the fact that she escaped on her own is pretty brave and awesome.

Second, fuck Alex Jones. I'm happy he can be sued, and I hope the families get a ton of money from him and just bankrupt him.

I'm worried about what's going to happen to Jayme now. Her parents are dead and she's too young to just take care of herself. When was the last time you ever heard of anyone adopting a 13 year old?

She has an aunt that she's close to and who seems to be taking care of her right now, so hopefully she can continue to rely on family.

Good, to both of these.

I hope the families sue Alex Jones for everything he has, and I hope Jayme recovers as best she can, hopefully she has family to take her in.

With all the shit in the news lately, we needed these kinds of stories.
Very happy news, indeed.

As for Jones, I hope he and InfoWars both go down in flames.
