Tolkien Fans!

Several questions.

Are orcs and goblins the same thing?
Are there any good orcs/goblins? Or at least not so stereotypically evil?
Is it actually canon that female dwarves are rare?

Thank you.

Yes, mostly. There are different variations (the Uruk-Hai are in the books as an orc variation, though not created by Saruman as in the movies), but they are all orcs (the term goblin is used in the Hobbit and a few times in LOTR to mean the same thing). Some people suggest that the goblins are the ones living underground, but that difference doesn't truly appear in Tolkien.

Tolkien suggested that there could have been because he didn't like the idea of an always evil species. The idea went against his beliefs. But he never showed any in the books. The idea is that they were created by Melkor from elves. They aren't an original thing, they were created by torturing and twisting elves into something else.

No. Female dwarves aren't rare in canon. They just don't travel as much as the men, so they aren't seen as often.
