Congratulations to Adam Driver on his first Oscar nomination, Best Supporting Actor for The Blackkklansman. Also surprised to hear this was Spike Lee's first Oscar nomination for Best Director of the same movie (wtf @ that).

Vice, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Black Panther have no place being best picture noms.

I had the great fortune to hear Ruth Carter give a talk about afrofuturism and costume design last month. Glad to see her make the list.

I don't know why people are so upset that Black Panther is nominated for Best Picture.

It's not gonna win. The Academy is trying to regain relevance. It's okay.

Also the rematch of Chazelle/Jenkins (First Man, Beale Street) started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Besides Best Supporting Actress for Regina King, there are no other acting nominees for either movie, and neither have a director or BP nom.

The little Netflix movie that could, Roma! I'm super glad Yalitza got in for best actress.

Also heh @ costumes for Mary Poppins and one song and best Sound Mixing for A Quiet Place. I'm glad AMPAS nominees realized that A Quiet Place was fine but not necessarily challenging. ("does it have to be challenging?")
