Due to some fluke in my inability to properly record a show off television, I've got an old vhs that has a most interesting feature. One show ends, then there's a bit of static, then this several second clip of the White Ranger emerging from a lake wearing these itty bitty swimming shorts, dripping wet and ripped and looking utterly shaggable, and the more static, and the beginning of a second show. O_o It's the damndest thing, but do I complain? Nooooooo.

I can't speak on behalf of the person who this is directed at, but I share much of your tastes and I can come off as being pretentious about things I like and their artistic merits. And...well, I can also still approach things from a different perspective, and I still think you have good taste even if it's not for artistic reasons. Princess Mononoke, for example, is my favorite movie, not only because it's a significant artistic achievement (and it is) but also because it's fun to watch. If I had a friend who didn't recognize Miyazaki as a great artist, but did recognize his films as good films I wouldn't hold it against them. Also, you may not know how to offer up a high-brow critique on art, but that doesn't mean that you don't appreciate art as art when you see it. You clearly have that ability.
PS: I'm just reading Wind-Up Bird for the first time right now, so this secret made me happy.

Yay for being loved!

I still find Stewie amusing at times, but even that's now strained as toilet humour and Meg-abuse takes over the show. Everyone else is free to watch what they want, but I wish my friends didn't expect me to get all this show's injokes, because I can't abide the lowbrow obnoxiousness that is this pile of crap.

I'm surprised how many people on here agree. Maybe we should form a support group? :)
