What is it?

The comic is that XKCD, and that's one of them. It was about - stuff where a guy in an apron doing dishes was 'woman's porn' and the little person in the comic says that.

I meant what is the fetish, but thanks!

Ah, sorry. I thought it was fetish plural but yeah, could be singular. Now *I* want to know! :D

Hate to tell you this, but that's very much not unusual. There's a ton of fetish stuff out there that has literally no sex in it, but people still get off on it. I can see how that's not the norm in fanfic-type circles but on actual porn sites it is very common.

The fetish kind of *is* the sex, sometimes. I can see the appeal if you have a really specific or visual fetish.

If the writing is hot enough, the reader can "get there" without the author needing to describe much of the sex, if any at all.

And for people with a fetish, there are often two types of kink reader/viewer

1) "the kink is the appetizer" they just want a bit of it to get them going but they want the majority of the story/video to be the explicitly shown sex. The kink is the gateway to the sex.

2 "the kink is the entree, the sex is dessert" they want most of it to strongly feature the kink, they can totally enjoy a work where the sex only starts happening at the very end.

Yup. And I have read a few kink/fetish stories where the writing was *excellent* and no actual sex (of the penetrative kind) was involved or even needed.

That's few and far between, though, at least in the majority of the stuff i've read.

(And too many kink memes seem to be the number 1, as you described, and there just isn't enough of the kink to be interesting.)

(Anonymous) 2019-02-11 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Great observation. I think there's also a bit of difference between kinky sex and kink qua kink. The latter is going to be much more concerned with the headspace of the relationship and may or may not have a sexy "happy ending" (orgasm).

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
People should fuck in porn but people should also pay way more attention to the lead-up to actually fucking in porn. Way, way, way more attention. I read a fic the other day where 80% of the fic was foreplay and build-up to fucking and 20% was actually fucking and I think that's the ideal ratio to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're talking about sexual tension, I totally agree. Honestly, if the tension is good, I'm happy just reading that without any resolution.

If you're talking about plot... no thanks, not why I'm there.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sexual tension and sexual atmosphere and sexual build up, that's what I'm talking about exactly

Eh. I like some build up. But too much tension and not enough actual porn is not for me. I need the resolution. The build up is important for the story. But it does nothing for me. I want all the actual naked touching.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Naked touching that's not actually fucking, though... now that's good stuff

(Anonymous) 2019-02-11 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
We are opposites on this. I live for the build up. 98% of the time the build up does way more for me than the actual sexytiems. And most of the stuff I find most erotic is in the build up, too. I mean, I want the porn - eventually. But if a writer gives me 100K of building emotional and sexual tension before getting to the fucking, I will love them forever.

One of the few points where I agree with Dan Savage: Gay people have to talk about what "sex" means a lot. Straight people don't do it enough.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreeing with others that (as far as I understand it), actual sex feels unnecessary or redundant for people with the fetish.

What counts as actual fucking to you, though? to me, if all the characters involved get off and enjoy themselves, that is sex. There doesn't have to be actual penetration for it to be sex.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you say genitals have to be involved for it to be sex?
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-02-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes because that's how people get off. It doesn't have to involve touching genitals, though. Some people can get off on breast/nipple touching. Some people can get off by just words or visuals. If more than one person is involved and everyone involved is satisfied, that's sex.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
....okay, now I just want to know what the fetish is. Also who the author is. Maybe some example paragraphs here. I am incredibly incredibly curious.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I do some fetish fic in addition to porn fic, but like, I make sure to tell people when the rating is just because of kink or if it's because they fuck. With the assumption that if they fuck it doesn't need to be stated on an explicit fic.
