Literally the only thing I want out of Frozen 2 is a redemption arc for Hans. I'll see it regardless, but the heart wants what it wants. (I haven't even watched the teaser. I don't even like Frozen. But I love Hans.

I’d watch it.

Sure, why not. lol His betrayal felt so hamfisted and a convenient way to write him off, so it'd be nice if he had the chance to recover a bit of depth.

Disney movies are not the most nuanced of films so I think his betrayal was played out just fine? It was a nice twist on the 'magical uwu prince is instant true love' trope Disney is famous for.

Write...what off? He was only there TO betray her.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
right? like... characters aren't real people. they're created to fulfill a function and Hans was to look like a Classic Disney Prince and then betray her. That's what he was made to do, lol

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, hard disagree. A character can be fleshed out and humanized. If your character is only there to fulfill a function, your story sucks.

Exactly. He wasn't a real character. And there was no real indication that he was going to betray her prior to it happening, except in that he clearly wasn't going to end up her one true love. Rather than having Anna choose, the competition is "written off" so the choice is made for her.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Except if that was the case, wouldn't have whatshisname been the one to unfreeze her and not Elsa? Like, you're saying that Hans was written off so that she is paired with the only other male in the movie, but even at the end they're not really 'paired' in a Disney HEA sort of way, and Elsa and Anna's relationship is still the more important thing.

We have no evidence he is ever a decent person. He wasn't an okay guy who suddenly decided to go bad, but a bad guy who was pretending to be nice and hoping for some opportunity all along. His betrayal wasn't hamfisted, it was just him showing who he really is.

You have absolute shit taste, OP.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, you've wandered into the wrong room -- the Mean People's Convention is down the hall.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
oh troll, if only someone loved you

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT, but this made me laugh out loud.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt, Hans had a drama queen "in your FACE" moment after he revealed his true colors and that shit just appeals to me. Dumbass can't even steal a kingdom properly.

I'd watch it, because I also like the... well, the IDEA of Hans. I like that whole worthless youngest son doing what he can to grab power thing. It's a weakness I have due to being the youngest of a youngest.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
but have you ever tried to murder your fiance/e to get that power? g o a l s

I haven't had a fiance/e yet, so I can't know for sure, but there's no point taking options off the table!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
...Actually, yeah, same. I don't really care or like Frozen that much, but I liked Hans and I'd kill for a redemption arc, too.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even need a redemption arc, I just need some screentime where he gets to be bitchy and pissed about his ruined plans.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I am so over this "we have to redeem the villain" thing people have

(Anonymous) 2019-02-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I am so over this "bad people don't deserve to become better" thing people have.

You realize the popularity of redemption arcs in children's entertainment is very new, right? It used to all be cardboard for-the-evuls and then they get punished, the end. Go watch your fill of older Disney movies if you're sick of villains being redeemed.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-23 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same. Is NO fandom safe from this trend?
