[Cameron Britton playing Ed Kemper in Mindhunter]

Both I and the friend who recommended me this series agree that there is something twistedly charming about him. I think he's supposed to be read that way,so you're not alone, OP.

TBH I think it's a really good example of making a serial killer charming and charismatic without making him, like, a rock star

I think some of that magnetism is Cameron Britton shining through in the character. I've seen/heard a bunch of interviews that he's given about this role, and he seems like a really funny, interesting guy.

OP here

It's definitely Cameron Britton and not Ed Kemper I'm interested in. Mindhunter was just the first thing I'd seen him in. He's also great in Umbrella Academy but seeing as how he's playing a time traveling assassin, well... I guess people will have to take my word for it that it's not the murder I enjoy?

Haha I was about to say he's excellent in the Umbrella Academy, but yeah, I guess it doesn't really help your case.

We have the same birthday (6/6/1986) and when I found out I lost my shit and immediately became weirdly obsessed with him, lol.

NAYRT but... wait... what? HE WAS BORN IN 1986 WTF?? He looks like an adult...

Yeah, men in their early 30s often look like adults...

I mean like, he's younger than me, and I don't look like an adult most days. Stupid babyface. I guess I just assumed he was older than me.

I completely understand your shock, anon. I'm shocked he's only a year older than me. He feels like he's from a completely different generation. I feel like he could be my uncle or something, lol.

Haha yeah, I looked him up and was like, "Um... what?"

LMAO I don't know why but this response cracks me up.

Seconding the wtf at the fact of him only being 33?! Like whaaaat

(Anonymous) 2019-02-25 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
i find him handsome too its the actor he is yummy loved him in both shows

I love that chin thing he does with Holden too, but for me it's more about Holden and how the show frames his character. There's something vaguely feminine about how Holden's character is treated by the narrative. Not that Holden the person is feminine, but the way he exists within the narrative veers a little towards territory that would usually be reserved for female characters. And this scene is definitely an example of that.

His vulnerability in this scene, and his awareness of his vulnerability, and his fear. Plus the previous scene he has with Debbie where she basically teaches him feminine flirtation/seduction techniques and he kind of takes them in and actually thinks about them, even though Debbie laughs it off. I just found it really riveting, after so many years of savvy, "man's man" detectives who are a lot more like his partner Bill.

Yesss to the whole vulnerability thing. I have never been into Groff before this, but whenever he's terrified and paralyzed with fear (hoooo boy that last scene where he fights off the hug) I'm just absolutely mesmerized.

That sounds really interesting. I love detective shows but am definitely bored with the man's man detectives as you describe them.
