S/O to that tumblr post mocking that bit in "Bend it Like Beckham" where Joe says that he does, in fact, know what it's like to be discriminated against for his family background, on account of being an Irish bloke in England.
All these Americans going on about how incredibly white it is, lololol, obviously he has *no* idea what he's talking about, how are Irish people discriminated against?

All unaware that a) US race relations aren't the same as UK race relations; b) The Troubles ended just four years before the film came out; and c) "Bend it Like Beckham" was directed by Gurinder Chadha, produced by Gurinder Chadha and Deepak Nayare, and written by Paul Mayeda Berges, Guljit Bindra and Gurinder Chadha.
There are zero white people on that list

I actually saw a reblog of that tumblr post with an addition informing the mockers that they had no damn idea what they were talking about.

Irish people still get treated like shit even today, honestly there is a lot of fucking awful shit directed at them, and the Welsh/Scottish that is just there as background radiation while growing up in England. Along with the usual racism as well.

There was a time when Irish immigrants were treated like crap in the US, too. They should have known that and been able to extrapolate that it could still be true elsewhere.

Really? REALLY. For fucks sake. I'm so sick of Americans assuming that all European countries have the same race relations as them. Especially Britain, which they seem to think is a carbon copy of the US.
