Well, I always only like a few characters = liking only a few pairings.

I actually like most of the characters in Code Geass, although I ship pretty much nothing.

I don't know why you don't ahaha. I like a lot of characters, for many reasons but I don't really care about most of them.

I hadn't known liking and caring about a character were separable.

I just can't focus on many characters, it's always been like this. Even in fanfcition, when the story focuses in huge detail about too many characters I tend to get bored and skip over chapters.

Okay, in Code Geass I like Schneizel. I don't care about him, I don't really care if he dies or lives or usurps Lulu from the throne. You understand?

I can focus on things that have a lot of characters quite easily even if I do not like all of them all that much. I don't mind if they take center stage for periods of time either as long as it is relevant to the plot in general.

Not really, to be honest :x Maybe we just have a different understanding of the work "like".

I have the feeling that more often than not, characters are introduced without any reason behind it. Just to prolong an Arc or suit the whim of the mangaka.

Perhaps that is true. I just like some characters more than others.

I disagree with you on that belief though. You often read mangaka's notes which are included in the scanlations, where they talk about how a storyline or character changed because of something their editor suggested. So, they may create a character on a whim, but what happens to the character can always change and who is to say they will even make it into the story they're working on?

Eh, I definitely remember them having an episode together where Joe ended up in servitude at Vegiemon's diner because he kept breaking things and Matt had to deal with getting him out. They definitely at least had more interaction than Matt and Mimi, which is inexplicably popular as a pairing.

Ah, I remember that one now, too! I think even Izzy and Mimi had more interaction, than Matt and Mimi, though I never considered either pairing, ahaha.

They had a lot of interaction. People just tended to forget about it, but if you were looking, you would note that those two and Sora were always sort of looking out for one another. (Sorry, it's my first OTP too. I nearly died just SEEING the secret)

"If you look for it" isn't really a good reason. Because "if you look for it" you'll find reasons for EVERY pairing, but I do remember the episodes now. (I'm not questioning the pairing, I just have that automatic knee-jerk reaction when people tell me what I have to see)

I'm not saying you "have" to see anything. Just, if you were focused on them, you probably would have noticed more of their interaction because it wasn't really as memorable as most of the "big" Taichi/Yamato stuff.

Jyou was always my favorite character, so I tended to tune in more when it came to his interactions with others. Of the other characters, he and Yamato had the most interesting nuanced bond, to me. So I shipped them like crazy.

I know what you mean; Mimi was my favorite, so I remember more of her than of other characters. That was before my shipping time, though. x)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that when everyone split up after Tai's disappearance, Joe and Matt traveled together. Later with TK. I want to say that Sora followed them sometimes, too, but I can't remember for certain. (I really, really need to rewatch that show...
