Somehow Suzaku/Luluko is my OTP ): ): ):

I want it the other way around, to suit my kinks ):

B-BUT Luluko... HE MAKES SUCH A PRETTY BRIDE.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I always only like a few characters = liking only a few pairings.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like most of the characters in Code Geass, although I ship pretty much nothing.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I wish I were able to give a fuck about more than just one a fe characters.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know why you don't ahaha. I like a lot of characters, for many reasons but I don't really care about most of them.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't known liking and caring about a character were separable.

I just can't focus on many characters, it's always been like this. Even in fanfcition, when the story focuses in huge detail about too many characters I tend to get bored and skip over chapters.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, in Code Geass I like Schneizel. I don't care about him, I don't really care if he dies or lives or usurps Lulu from the throne. You understand?

I can focus on things that have a lot of characters quite easily even if I do not like all of them all that much. I don't mind if they take center stage for periods of time either as long as it is relevant to the plot in general.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
also I've got more episodes uploaded too, I'm working on 5 today.

I've already downloaded everything up to and including ep 4 :O

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
yay~ right now I'm working on part 4 & 5 of episode 5, the rest is ready to go. I'm guessing you haven't watched any of it yet. I'll send you something through AIM hold on...

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try to watch a bit of it this weekend, but I can't promise anyhting because I need to focus on getting better, ugh.

And I wondered why episode 4 was so short and wonky :V

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAH I don't know what something looks like if you only join up half of it tbh. I want you to get better first too. The episodes passed quite quickly for me which I like. I hate watching something and feeling like it will never end.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Like you are watching it on acid. :D

I hope I enjoy it too, what with my everlasting adoration for Asuka, ahaha.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I've never tried acid so I can't verify that, but what I really meant was even though they were the standard length they felt a lot shorter. I think that is because for much of the series there is always something going on. Episodes that are full of action seem to go by faster than those that are calmer.

Funny, I really did not like Asuka at all. I know she's tsundere and all that, and she has a crush on Ikari but I felt she was always a bitch to him for no reason other than she could be. I understand her reasons for not liking Rei that much, calling her a doll and whatever but she's just horrible to Ikari and he's done nothing to deserve it.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really, to be honest :x Maybe we just have a different understanding of the work "like".

I have the feeling that more often than not, characters are introduced without any reason behind it. Just to prolong an Arc or suit the whim of the mangaka.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps that is true. I just like some characters more than others.

I disagree with you on that belief though. You often read mangaka's notes which are included in the scanlations, where they talk about how a storyline or character changed because of something their editor suggested. So, they may create a character on a whim, but what happens to the character can always change and who is to say they will even make it into the story they're working on?

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I only have three different settings: like/hate a character or don't give a fuck.

Ah, I forgot to add that. Even if I come to like or hate that character later, I still get really annoyed by every new character that appears. Especially because in the most recent shounen manga, the trend seems to go to not introduce only one, but a whole fucking group of new characters every few chapters.

Like in FMA, the whole thing is just so fucking off the track, I don't even care about the brothers a little bit anymore; I just want that whole thing to finally blow up and kill everyone and everything and for it to end.

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got really like, like, meh, dislike and hate.

The problem with FMA and the other monthly manga is it takes a long time to get through an arc (more so if is a long running manga). FMA sucks to you because the main focus right now is not the Elric brothers - would you be so bothered it it came out every week rather than every month? There are a lot of characters, but because the pace is considerably slower you don't see much action, which is why you dislike it now right? But in a story like this, or any story that has many characters you can't just abandon them in favour of simply keeping the action going.

I don't mind the trend of introducing many characters at once even if it takes me a little time to be able to remember who they all are. Once the plot gets going that kind of thing tends to happen less until it's time for a new arc. But new characters being brought in during a new arc makes sense - the plot has advanced but if things stuck with the same people that would become boring.

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think my like and dislike were stolen out of my crib ):

I'd be just as bothered, because I don't care about the Elric brothers and all the new characters. Well, seems to me that he has abandoned Roy and his team a while ago, because he has too many other characters going to give them all the same "screen-time".

It's just a personal preference - I enjoy a manga/anime more if there's a smaller (it can be over 20, if done right) group of people, and if every arc reveals more of them. Different aspects of the characters, development between them, the characters changing sides, that kind of thing.

I have the feeling that is harder to accomplish than just throwing in new character shell after new character shell, and if the readers/watchers like them, I'll *maybe* deepen the character and let him/her appear more. And if not, I can always just never mention them again! Win/win for me, yay! (Reborn does the same)

... do I sound very bitter when I'm ill?

Re: 144

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He? Who is he? Hiromu Arakawa is a woman haha. I can understand where you're coming from though, too many characters can be overwhelming to a series and make the plot overly complicated. But for people like Ed and Al, they have traveled all over Amestris and they're part of the military, so it fits perfectly that they'll have met many people. But also, because of the military's past exploits and the fact that is corrupt all take up a large part of the plot. Roy wasn't abandoned - he was split up on purpose because King knew he was up to something, so figured if they're separate they can't do very much. When they were all stationed together you should show what they were all doing and keep in in 1 or 2 chapters.

But when you have many characters, who all have big parts to play in the outcome of things, to make sure they get equal screen time and to make sure you see what goes on - some characters will have to miss out for a while. I think using a set number of characters is just as hard as bringing in new ones - the problem with that is you need to ensure they're all different.

I'm just sad that Havoc got paralysed. I liked his character a lot, and I'm curious to see what he is able to do to help Roy given that he is no longer able to fight like the rest. I also can't remember when the other three in Roy's gang defect ):

Re: 144

[identity profile] master-kogane.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, that's what I get for automatically assuming a shounen mangaka is probably a man, ahaha. Still, they did split up with other characters too, and still they get more time than Roy and his team.

Yeah, I miss his team too, and I'm still wondering about what Bradley said, making Roy see "the truth" too. But it's just natural to want more of your favorite characters, right?
