Oh man, I thought I was the only person who hated it! THERE ARE TWO OF US!

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Can't believe that a Thor movie would be juvenile.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really understand the "your complaint about this negative thing can't be valid because this media is FULL of negative things!!!" argument.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, one, I don't think of "juvenile" is a negative thing. I mean, OP isn't incorrect in calling it juvenile. They have accurately pointed out the stylistic choices of the movie.

The entirety of Thor Ragnarok was juvenile. That was the point of hiring Taika Waititi.

I saw a phenomenally large number of women who were extremely into the whole thing so I'm not sure how generally true the whole dudebro thing is.

Yeah, I was just coming down here to say, I don't think that moment was meant to appeal to the MEN in the audience...

I mean, fine for the men who are into it, but... this one's for the ladies.

A separate argument from whether or not it's juvenile or whether it's enjoyable/not enjoyable.

Came here to say this.

I'm not into women sexually and I still liked this moment/pose. I also liked her entrance at the start of the film. I thought her whole purpose was to NOT be male gaze-y sexy and just be an extremely flawed mess (who could also be strong and attractive as well) instead. And I loved that.

I do prefer her scrapper costume to her Valkyrie get up though.

Yeah honestly I don't know how dudes felt about it but I know what most of the women I know, myself included, thought about it.

Okay, so, there are girls who are actually "one of the guys." And it is nice to actually see them portrayed in media. This type of character is so rare (and even when they exist, they are usually a lot more feminine than she was)

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Not really that rare. The 'not like other girls' trope has been around for a while.

I just hated that character in general. She was a slaver, I found her whole shtick pretty gross and the belching and shit didn't ingratiate her to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I don't care whose gaze she was directed at; it certainly wasn't mine.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I never considered any of that because I was too distracted during these scene because I how much I hated her costume here. This is supposed to be her warrior uniform/armor and when Thor gives it to her, it's just a little pile of fabric. Her Valkyrie uniform is pajamas? Sounds comfy but not bound to inspire awe and terror in one's enemies. I guess we can argue it's still a protective suit via Asgardian textile technology, but we don't see Syf or Thor or Heimdall or anyone else dress in a onsie, and her normal clothes have more substance to them.

This character is bisexual. Why the hell wouldn't she make a strap-on joke?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, bisexual here, and ???????????? I don’t understand the connection at all?? Tons of women who fuck women don’t employ strapons?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Are...are dudebros into pegging now? You've been hanging out with much different bros than I have

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Right??

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I've seen the actress do that a number of times, so I reckon it was more her idea than anything. She did it in that Janelle Monae video (film?) she was in?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-02 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, apparently the "unsubtle strap-on joke" was still too subtle for me, because I didn't get it until I read this secret. I thought people laughed just because it was a really, really big gun. Like, overkill.

Anyway, I'll just show myself out now...
