Not being feminists.

I realize I'm opening a can of worms here, but: it depends on your definition. Radfems would consider themselves feminists. They can fuck off. Karens who think feminism is posting memes on facebook about girl power but still talking over oppressed women trying to get a word in would consider themselves feminists. They can fuck off too. Women who think the answer to the world's problems is "having our turn" and oppressing men would consider themselves feminists. Guess what they can also do?

It's just a dangerous umbrella term for someone to sit there and tut-tut about not placing yourself under.

NAYRT and I’m guessing (and a white woman) but middle to upper middle class white soccer moms with “I want to speak to the manager” haircuts and “live, laugh, love” and “wine is a salad” signs in their kitchens. White women who understandably believe that they should make more than $0.77 (as of 2017 actually $0.82) for every dollar a white man takes home, but aren’t just as angry that black women—also as of 2017—take home $0.68 and Latina women take home $0.62 for every dollar a white guy makes.

Middle-aged white soccer moms, basically. The ones that get their lattes skinny, refuse to vaccinate their kids, and want to speak to your manager.

It's a relatively new term, but I'm in love with it hahaha

Well, I've been both, and not being a feminist is more enjoyable than being a feminist. The latter involves a lot of anger and victimhood and hyper-scrutiny of media and infighting and generally just makes me miserable.

Feminism doesn’t have to involve any of that shit. I consider myself a feminist and donate to Planned Parenthood and think paid maternity/parental leave should be mandatory and that the gender (and race!) pay gap is bullshit and a whole laundry list of other stuff including wishing there were more female characters in ensemble movies and getting angry sometimes, but I don’t make myself miserable about it. Admittedly I get depressed about the state of the world sometimes, but I can’t very well ignore it; the world won’t let me.

And sometimes I like to imagine a world where telling women to smile was at least a misdemeanor, or I could get away with punching guys without facing assault charges, like the one who told me to smile when I’d just left the hospice care home where my mom was dying.

Having a reductive view about anything would make it seem extreme.

For what it's worth, I consider myself a feminist and I'm also weary of the perma-victim complex that seems to permeate a lot of the movement.

Feminism is an ideology

Any particular social circle of feminists is not the same as feminism
