I kinda feel the same way. I don't have an opinion on her or Harry Potter as a whole but it seems ridiculous that her off handed comments have generated so much controversy and in turn malice from some people.

I just wish she'd stop contradicting herself. If these random comments are going to be canon, they should be consistent. Ron's job changed from one comment to the next. The nature of the Dumbledore and Grindewald relationship has now changed.

Honestly I feel like she's making them up on the fly. I'd enjoy them a lot more if she'd actually think about it and be consistent.

Some of the stuff she says is WTF, but the annoying thing isn't that she's still tweeting about HP, it's the often cynical media storm around every single damn thing she ever says and how people who hate her can't just avoid it already, and won't stop talking about her.

the only the she said that really bugged me was the idea she had that sex was incompatible with fantasy fiction in general or as she put it "you can't have sex in front of unicorns" and my response was to write fic that had people having sex in front of unicorns.

I haven't been a HP fan in years (and am actually mostly trying to avoid it now, which is not easy), but I do understand that fandom would prefer it if she didn't contradict herself so much?

But I do have to admit that I enjoyed the funny tweets that came out of her latest relevation about Dumbledore's sex life.

People are blowing everything she says out of proportion.

Like the toilet thing everyone brings up was just a detail in the Chamber of Secrets entry she did on Pottermore several years ago, she didn't just decide to announce out of the blue what wizards did before plumbing was invented.

And she didn't say Hermione was always black, she was just defending the Cursed Child casting by saying that being black didn't change her character.

tbh, i feel like some of the issue is how these things get talked about?

a lot of the time, people don't really make distinctions between the times things were revealed in detail on pottermore because they didn't fit into the books, the times she answered questions (esp from younger fans asking about various matters of diversity) on twitter now and again, and the times actually random things were revealed (the whole huge nagini mess springs to mind). all of it often gets re-posted and talked about like she basically jumps out of your morning cheerios and poops out a fun fact, but i kinda feel like there's degrees here?

oh, and the 'great' part of fandom where calling someone's fic shit is bullying, but tweeting at the author of a book that they're a shit writer who needs to stop talking is just a fun fandom activity a whole bunch of people will cheer you on for.

Is there a gender double standard at play? I don't remember Tolkien fans complaining about additional information outside the books; quite the contrary. There's a long tradition of trying to get additional information from creators. Cons are built in part on it. Why does JKR inspire such a performance of irritation?

I like the idea of Black Hermione. I like the idea of gay Dumbledore. I thought the idea of wizards and witches shitting themselves and magicking the poop away was hilarious although I didn't take it seriously.

Mahootohkohroh is dumb (although I can't wait for the FB movie set in Asia so I can hear people pronouncing this stupidity of a name onscreen). The idea of American Indians learning about how to do proper magic with a wand is terrible . JKR's handling of Nagini, especially her take that tweet about nagas, is terribly dumb. When JKR said that Grindlewald was manipulative and that Dumblefore's love was onesided I thought that the relationship seemed to be twosided in the text actually but ok I can just disregard word of god but then she now goes hey these two were totally passionate about each other and they also had sex!!!!! and I'm like OMG JUST STOP JKR. JUST STOP.

I was vaguely annoyed with JKR before but I'm now on Team JKR Needs To Stop Retroactively Sharing Her Headcanons And Contradicting Herself.

Totally unrelated but wow, her styling in this pic is fucking stunning.

I don't care what she says or doesn't; it's her world to play with and I think people should just grow the fuck up. I have noticed that a lot of people are parroting clickbait that is misleading, though. She never said Dumbledore and Grindlewald had "an intense sexual relationship". She said their relationship was emotionally intense, and in a whole other paragraph said there might have been a sexual element but she wasn't particularly interested in that compared to their psychological connection. She also never "released a statement that Dumbledore was lgbt"; some fan asked her a question at a book reading about whether Dumbledore ever had a wife, and she replied off the cuff she always considered him gay. Context matters.
