Ha, nice image selection OP.

I just wish the writers of the Avengers movies would pay attention to the other movies adn the character arcs therein. Tony had some great growth in his movies, but they just delete it and go back to square one of selfish asshole in the Avengers films.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That is all the Avengers films. The Avengers films are not for character growth.

Also, Tony sort of reverts for every one of his movies.

I totally agree. Age or Ultron was the worst of it for me, because I was totally ready for him to have a heart-to-heart with the twins, particularly about how he knows how it feels to stare one of his company's bombs in the face and how he had screwed up but since devoted his life to fixing it and doing better. And instead, we get "this was never my life" and he never actually talks to the twins in any meaningful way.

I am just still bitter that Captain America's final movie in his trilogy had half of it dedicated to Tony Stark and his problems that always end up being everyone's problem.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! This times a million. Forever angry that the final chance at a Cap and Bucky movie ended up being the Tony Stark Family Drama Show. :/

THIS!! And the fact this his stans are happy and smug about Cap's last movie being about Tony just fills me with rage.

Yes! I didn't hate Civil War, but I didn't love it. It is definitely one of the worst MCU movies for me. And the better parts of it were the Steve parts (minus the shoehorned romance). Steve's feelings about Bucky I'm never not going to love. But there was way too much Tony.

As far as I'm concerned Civil War should never have been a Captain America movie to begin with. They should have done any other storyline for Cap's third movie and then Avengers: Civil War.

or not done Civil War at all because I hated that event in the comics and I hated it in the movies, but nobody's asking me

THIS THIS THIS THIS. CW didn't even need to fucking happen, it could have totally been a Cap movie *without* all that stupi shite, and the accords, blah blah.

If they *had* to have CW - which i think they just did for the fun of making the Avengers fight each other - it should have been an Avenger's movie, not a Cap movie.

I'm not bitter about this, it doesn't fill me with seething resentment every time I think about CW and how it wasn't a Cap movie AT ALL.

I ended pretty much hating everyone to such a degree that I decided to ignore reality and live in my own made-up world. As far as I am concerned there was only one Avengers movie and then they went off to be a happy team and have adventures off-screen while the MCU focused exclusively on other characters.

I realized that the last time I had properly enjoyed anything to do with the Avengers was back when everything was team-as-family, they all live together in the tower, and I didn't want to slap some sense into each and everyone of them.

I sometimes really miss the days of "everyone lives in Avengers tower" fic with an occasional side order of "with a rehabilitated Loki" - though naturally that last one was often done quite badly because reforming a villain takes a lot of work. There was still some good stuff though.

I don't think I'll ever get back to how I felt about MCU fandom roughly around 2012-13. It just feels like I've cycled between feeling disappointed or having unrelenting misery thrown at me. It's why I will never give in to fan pressure to worship Infinity War and will unashamedly say the first Avengers is still my favourite of the Avengers film (even if it does suck a bit for character growth and has Whedon dialogue issues.)

The Avengers movies are the worst for all of their characters. They trick me into getting excited, then it's a shitshow ever single time.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, nothing Tony did in the Avengers movies or in Civil War can make me hate him as much as I hated him after original recipe Civil War. At least Tony's motivations, questionable as they may be, were understandable, even sympathetic, in his non Iron Man movie appearances. Comics!Civil War Tony was an inch away from being a murderous tyrant, and I was glad when Marvel retconned the son of a bitch out of existence.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I remember watching the video from when they first announced they were doing a Civil War movie and everyone was cheering while I was literally cursing at my screen because I didn't want to deal with that shitshow again. I knew they were going to change a lot of it, but I also knew I still wouldn't like it at all.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Cap was worse. We saw Tony struggling with if he was making the right decision, where Cap was all "No, you move."

And he hasn't changed, he was the same self righteous dick when he attacked Cyclops and the mutants in AVX.

To me, as a non-comics reader who is vaguely aware of the comic story, this is actually telling. They shouldn't have adapted Civil War in the first place because Civil War was not a good story. Maybe the movie version is slightly better, but the impression I have is that this isn't saying that much.

The comics Civil War Story-arc was such a goddamn mess for so many characters, and it was made even worse by the fact that they took a relationship I'd genuinely enjoyed up until that point(Tony+Steve) and completely trashed it beyond repair, just... I'm never really going to forgive them for that.

It's why I didn't want it in the MCU, it was a mess and while the MCU version is slightly better I still hated it.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The other day I saw a post on Tumblr that basically went along the lines of "Tony isn't bad for profiting off weapons, he literally did nothing wrong, antis just hate him because Civil War was Iron Man 4 LOL" as though that's not a legitimate reason to hate him. And everyone in the reblogs was smug about him eating up screen time that should be spent on other characters.

Tony and his fanbase can all rot tbh.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole point of his character was he was selfish before becoming Iron Man.

Though hating him for that is like hating Dr. Strange for being a jerk before his accident, or Peter for letting the burglar go.

I think the awfulness of the Tony fans has a big part of my hatred for the MCU version of the character. I wasn't a big fan, but the Tony fans are just so obnoxious.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-25 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the thing that really soured me on Tony as a character outside the Iron Man movies is the way his loudest fans behave.

Thank you fellow bitter fans

Your anger is making me feel better. In the sense that I'm not alone. I think I've just been surrounded by Tony fans, but all of these comments are giving me life. You feel my feels!

I'm the opposite, anon. The movies - and especially the fandom - have made me hate Steve and feel super protective of Tony. I've left the fandom over it.
