What do you do?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Curious. What's your job? Is it a career or just what's paying the bills right now?

I am a production planner. So I coordinate between the plants that produce our goods and the sales people to make sure order are fulfilled.

Accountant! It’s my career, unfortunately. I don’t know if I’ve gaslit myself into liking speadsheets, but I’m looking into having work pay for advanced classes for me because, holy shit, spreadsheets is a really marketable skill and alarmingly impressive to people who don’t spreadsheet.

I work for Goodwill Industries, I'm a softlines sorter. I go through all the donated clothing we get, determine if it will be sold in our store, on our e-commerce website, or be recycled. I hang and price the clothes and move them onto the sales floor. It's not a bad gig, pays better and is better than having to work retail, and Goodwill does a lot of positive things for the community: we help homeless and low income folks get back on their feet thru job and housing opportunities, we help veterans the same way. We help people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. We have a food pantry and a program that helps low income people purchase their own cars. It's a good company to work for.

A communications manager for a nonprofit that does international work.

I like the field, I like the mission, the work is kind of fun. Not a big fan of nonprofit salaries though.

Corporate paralegal. I like the work and I'm really good at it, but my passion is in writing; this is just to pay the bills.

Immigration lawyer. It is what I want to do, but currently working for now who I'd like to be working for long-term. My boss is okay as a boss, but I'm underpayed and not full-time and it is frustrating. What I'd like to be doing is non-profit work.

Teacher’s aide in special education. I like it, I like my coworkers, and I love the kids, but the pay’s pretty low and it’s hard when the kids die. I’ve only been at this job for three years and we’ve had five kids die. It breaks my heart every time and I try my best to be kind to the kids even when they’re giving me a hard time because I don’t know how much time they’ve got.

Processing agent for unemployment insurance. My current position isn't where I want to stay forever, but I do want to stick with the organization, and not only because the benefits are good.

I'm a pharmacy technician but my title now is Pharmacy Buyer, soon to be Central Pharmacy Buyer. I purchase for three hospitals in the healthcare system I work for. I guess you could say this is my career now, it used to be just a job to pay the bills. It's not bad for having dropped out of college.

Which characters with potential ended up disappointing you?

What do you wish the creators had done differently?

Inspired by the Ginny secret.

The members of the Order of the Phoenix for me. We got introduced to these awesome badass adult wizards and witches and potentially there were many allies who weren't members but were still helping. They kind of had stuff to do for a while and then ?? and then they showed up to die at the end but some of them lived probably and I'm sure I could read about it on Pottermore but ??

I'm sure they were doing important save the world shit, but LOL @ Dumbledore not even telling the competent adults who had been his allies against Voldemort for years about the Horcrux situation.

On a theme of HP, Snape. I HATED the Lily love reveal. Up to book 5, I thought Snape was a really cool exploration of a morally ambiguous spy who'd started out (and to a large extent remained) a horrible little toe-rag who'd gradually realised that out-and-out genocide was a step too far and did some difficult and horrible things to try and redeem himself.

And then, no, turns out he's just a horrible little toe-rag with a crush who only turned to good because his ex-master killed the one person who happened to be important to him.

And, I know, people change for the sake of other people, but I just never really liked the whole 'redeemed himself for love' thing when we could have had 'slowly redeemed himself for principle'.

I do get that this is a matter of preference. But the whole lost love thing was not the direction I wanted him to have gone.

Hey, CSI. Nick Stokes got kidnapped, buried alive, and attacked by ants. Maybe we could have seen more aftermath of that than a pedostache and once being nervous about going underground?!!?

Hey, Justified. I get that Raylan and Boyd are your main thing but Rachel and Tim were also very interesting and not as annoying as your to main characters.

The Jussie case

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
So... What the fuck?

I'll say this much. I found Smollet's initial story weird and unlikely. I find the idea that the Chicago DA would drop 16 felony charges for lying to police for no reason other than "community service" about 10x weirder and less likely.

What's something you thought you'd love until you actually got it?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Inspired by the fact that I finally have that cushy, well-paying 9-5 office job... and I pretty much hate it. I hate the routine, I hate the salary (as opposed to hourly and OT potential), I hate the Monday-Friday scheduling, and the early mornings.
