Ugh. I've seen a lot of creepy arguments with this thread in the Umbrella Academy shippers. So creepy.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, canonically two of the Umbrella characters want to bone.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. And people like to argue that it's not really incest because they're not biologically related/they were adopted.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes but they've also argue that despite being adopted they were not really raised as siblings, more like military academy kids or boarding school kids.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they are correct with not being biologically related. Also, I don't think they were actually adopted? Didn't the guy buy them from their mothers?

And I guess whether or not they count each other as siblings is up to them. Obviously some do, but some don't.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with that argument is that it implies adopted siblings aren't *really* siblings, which, you know. Not only is that wrong but by that logic there are no reason to find relationships between people who aren't biologically related creepy, nevermind power imbalance. Conflict of roles is a thing.

Anyhow you can write what you want, I would not ignore the conflicted feelings about being with someone who belongs to your family tho.

While I understand your concerns, there is no actual power imbalance for the two Umbrella Academy characters in question. One could flatten you to a wall, the other could mind control you. They're also the exact same age.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
i've seen this creepy argument in lots of adopted incest fandoms, just fucking admit it's incest and carry on. but no instead you get ppl legit talking about how it doesn't count because 'adopted siblings aren't real siblings' and as someone with adopted family members to that i say: fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
But they were not 'adopted siblings' in the case of the Umbrella kids. They were 'adopted child soldiers' being isolated and tortured by their owner.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never read the comics, just familiar with the tv show, but they were raised as siblings. Fucked up child soldier siblings, but siblings. The show really pushes the whole sibling/family thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
The show also pushed Luther/Allison so....

(Anonymous) 2019-03-26 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
the show sure as hell pushed the family aspect of their relationships really hard though, and they refer to each other by brother and sister a lot, they also all call their mother and father mom and dad.

like dude, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
You mean like the two that were trying to fuck each other since they hit puberty?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
i was talking about all of them but those two absolutely referred to their parents as mom and dad at the same time, like this literally happens in several scenes, they have the same parents.

just because the show refused to acknowledge that it was super fucking weird doesn't mean it wasn't.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
My best friend calls my dad 'Dad'. We have never lived together. I also have a ton of uncles/cousins that I am not actually related to. Maybe it is a regional thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Still incest. Just canon incest.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah um, just because it's canon it doesn't mean it isn't incest?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thor and Loki felt more like actual siblings than the Hargreeves. (This is not an invalidation of real life family members who are unrelated by blood.) I think Reginald H put more emphasis on the fact that they are meant to be heroes than that they are a family, and I don’t think he called them anything other than their numbers.

Still, given that people talked about breaking others’ kneecaps etc for shipping any of the Hargreeves siblings together I think all the shippers should embrace the incest and tag their shippy fics as incest because fuck antis.
