I've only seen two movies with her (One had EVERYBODY acting very poorly so she wasn't out of place, and Scott Pilgrim was like 9 years ago), so I don't have a modern view of her acting......but I don't disagree with you. I'm still a little sad Emily Blunt was not Captain Marvel.

Off screen she seems like a lovely person.

Emily Blunt is English though

It's acting. If Elizabeth Olson can be Wanda, I don't see why Emily couldn't be Captain Marvel.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, how is being English a barrier to getting a Marvel role? Did you not see Spider-Man or Doctor Strange?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't see Spiderman and I didn't like the Benedict Cumberbatch casting either. I'm not saying that everything has to line up with nationality but I also don't feel like Blunt or Cumberbatch is uniquely good enough to where casting them as American is worth it.

Hrmmmmmmmm....I don't see Emily Blunt as Captain Marvel *at all*. I liked Ms. Larson quite a lot.

But hey, you do you.

I agree with you completely. I loved Brie Larson. And as much as Emily Blunt did well as a badass woman in Edge of Tomorrow, I don't think she's right for Captain Marvel at all.

OH! That's where she's from. I knew i knew her, but....my memory sucks for that sort of thing.

Yeah, she was good in that, but Captain Marvel was not that.

I have no plans of watching Cpt. Marvel like OP, but I absolutely would have seen it if Emily Blunt was starring in it. She's such a sweetheart!

She does seem like a nice person, she just doesn't seem to have that, I don't know, draw that a lot of actors do.

I thought someone like Jane Levy might work.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Scott Pilgrim is one of my go-to movies when I don't know what to watch and I still had to look up what character she played, oops.

[personal profile] morieris 2019-03-28 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao for some reason she is the first and foremost person I remember from that movie.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of confused what you're judging her by if you've never seen her in anything.

As for me, I went in with super low expectations because of all the complaints thrown at her, and ended up super satisfied as a result lol. Loved her sort of more deadpan snark which I felt was pretty different from the other snarky characters who usually felt more like taunting to me. And unexpectedly, because all her trailer scenes and photos looked mediocre to me...I found her hot in the movie, lol. Miiiiight have affected my viewpoint, but who knows.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed about the snark. It was a more realistic level of dry humor, at least in my opinion, as opposed to the Zippy One Liners we hear a lot in other MCU movies.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually enjoy the zippy one liners well enough (except during battle and emotional scenes, urgh), but yeah, they do feel unrealistic. Hearing Carol and Fury talk kinda felt like listening to my friends talk when they're being particularly interesting.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same!

I do like the one liners mostly, but they've gotten too much the past few movies. And it was nice to see something new. I laughed more in this one than I have in a while.

I haven't seen her in any movies or shows that I can recall, but I have seen a couple of interviews, some clips, trailers, and maybe her Oscar speech (I don't really remember that well). Nothing more that a couple of minutes here and there, but she just seems so colorless every time, to me.

She's remarkable in Room. Absolutely deserved her Oscar.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She couldn't be more bland or boring if she tried. And I'm saying this as someone who enjoyed the movie overall. But Brie has zero charisma and the lack of acting talent doesn't help.

Her physical look is a little boring. But on screen for me she was great. I found her just fun to watch. There was something about her that intrigued me. I haven't seen her in anything else, though. Just as Captain Marvel.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw Captain Marvel (largely because I wanted to support the female-led superhero movie), and I could not agree more. The movie was alright, I didn't hate it. But I found it really bland, like there was just no spark at all, and while I think part of that was the writing, I kept thinking that a different lead actor could've really helped the situation. Given the critical acclaim Larson has garnered, it seems unreasonable to suggest she's anything but skilled as an actor. However, IMO she didn't have any of that "It" factor - that magnetism that the majority of Marvel leads have in spades.

The character never clicked with me. She was just kind of there.

I didn't have any pre-existing expectations of her in the role, which is probably why I actually really loved it in the end. Her detached persona made sense but when she started to remember her old life (and the interactions with her friend and daughter) that was my favourite part. More so than when she levelled up with her powers and took everyone out (still a cool scene.)

(Anonymous) 2019-03-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I found her likable in Kong: Skull Island, but that was such big silly fun I liked everyone in it.
