You should. A lot of things are coming about the prosecutor 'recusing' herself and then going back on that saying the word was used 'colloquially' and having contact with both friends of the actor and his family members.

Yeah but the dude had 16 felony charges and the hatred of the whole criminal justice system of Chicago. It seems massively, extraordinarily unlikely that if you have a guy like that dead to rights, you're going to throw it away for no real reason, when convicting him is going to be popular and letting him go is going to cause you a massive slew of problems. It's not even like he's a huge celeb. He's a d-lister.

It doesn't pass the smell test. And that's not to say he's not guilty. Just that it doesn't make sense that he got away with it for no other reason than celebrity.

I heard that the state's attorney is a friend of his family and was able to work out a very favorable deal.

The man had 16 felony charges for very visible, widely reported crimes. Getting all charges dropped is well past the bounds of "favorable deal".

Money talks. So does powerful friends.

Are you saying that the Obamas were involved in having Smollett's charges dropped? If not, what role do the Obamas play?

No idea. It could be as innocent as someone trying to do a favor for the Obamas.

But if people want to say, "No way, there has to be something else, it can't be favoritism!" then it's very logical to point to him having powerful connections.
