Incest is fine if it's between two consenting adults of the same sex though.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Incest is not morally wrong between two consenting adults of any sex where there's no risk of reproduction but it's such an instinsically dangerous practice that it's still probably for the best to have a degree of social taboo against it.

Except it really isn't.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
There are huge intrinsic risks of grooming and abuse.

If you're the same anon - since 'sex without reproduction' and 'dangerous practice' seemed linked as in 'it's too risky because monster babies!', which was what my reply was aimed at.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I mentioned because the anon I was responding to had the "same gender" bit, which I assume is for genetics / babies reasons. But it wasn't what I actually had in mind as a broader point.

+1

OP

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. I can agree with that. So why do shippers insist that it isn't incest? It seems like shippers are the ones who think incest is wrong.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. What shippers are you interacting with? 90% of the Thorki shippers I know REVEL in the incest.

Personally, I'm with the anon above: human social mores/ taboos don't apply to fucking gods. Or to gods fucking.

There are people on this very thread claiming it isn't incest.

Re: OP

Thor/Loki is my favorite ship, and I totally agree that it's incest.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
While I am not really legislating against it or something, I think the real damage of incest doesn't come from babies (the risk of deformity is really low, it's higher with mothers over forty in non-incest couples, tbh). The damage is psychological. Even if both parties are adults and consenting, how do you break up with your sibling? If things go south, how can you avoid them? Is there going to be an inherent power differential depending on family dynamics? And frankly, doesn't this normalize incestual relationships when we know how damaging they are to kids, who really can't escape power differentials and need to learn what is/isn't appropriate?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU! It always bothers me when people assume the major objection to incest is or should be about reproduction.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
IMHO, one of the saner posts on this thread.
I personally find it horrifying that a good many otherwise sane individuals ignore the larger picture when discussing incest and its repercussions.
Until you can understand that any given relationship isn't just about only two individuals and what they want, you just can't comprehend what impact that relationship can have on anyone else.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"How do you break up with your sibling"?
You kick'em off the bloody rainbow bridge, that's how.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you break up with a sibling? The same way you do that without the fucking. You somehow seem to believe siblings are for life. Genetics are for life, but you can ditch your sibling any way you like.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
i hope you mean in fiction bc incest is so goddamn damaging and horrible irl that if anyone actually thinks it's 'totally okay' just bc they ship incest ships i 100% judge them to hell and back for that.

fictional portrayals of incest aren't actually accurate at all to how horrific it is irl.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There is such a thing on consensual, healthy incest in real life. Like, 90% of it isn't but that isn't true of all of it.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
99.99999999%

(Anonymous) 2019-04-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't ship incest, but I have no issues with it irl if the relationship is healthy, despite it being at a high risk not being so. I view it similiar to a relationship between adults with a large age gap. Is it possibly unhealthy? Yeah. Is it inherently? No.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
dude, age-gaps irl are not even in the same ballpark as incest, like what the actual fuck?

it's almost always involving a kid having been horrifically abused and groomed their entire life into believing that whats happening to them is 'normal', there is no way in hell that shit is ever healthy and the fact that i see ppl on this comm actually defending this shit irl turns my goddamn stomach.

ya'll are fucking sick in the head.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's pretty clear that AYRT was most likely thinking of situations where both parties are of the same generation and very close in age.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
which pretty much never happens outside of 'separated at birth' type situations and if it's not it's still abusive because the two kids have latched onto one another in a horribly unhealthy way.

i'm sorry but fandom and media really has warped peoples ideas of what incest actually is and it's aggravating to see people so blithely defend it as though it isn't an absolutely terrible thing to happen to a person.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
How could they not mean in fiction?
