... They're certainly lions.

I am going to cry at least once during this movie because I always tear up when I hear The Circle of Life. Also, I like how the names matched the music beats.

I don't care for it. I don't like how the animation looks. I hate how Disney is trying to call it live action. And also, all of the Disney "live-action" remakes just seem so pointless and hollow from the start. Idk, just don't get the point.

Money money money money, money [Repeat: x 6]
Some people got to have it
Some people really need it
Listen to me why'all, do things, do things, do bad things with it
You want to do things, do things, do things, good things with it
Talk about cash money, money
Talk about cash money- dollar bills, why'all

Well, sure, that's the point for Disney as a corporate entity, but if I cared about that I'd just read their quarterly earnings reports

It is easier to say Live Action that "Photorealistic CGI".

Yup. And also, generally, people don't call CGI animation. It is a style animation, but that's not what it is called.

You somehow missed the whole Pixar phenomenon, didn’t you?

You are right, that type of CGI is called animation. But the kind they use in otherwise live action films generally isn't. Not sure what the distinction is, actually, but they seem to be considering this more like that than Pixar stuff?

It’s still animation to anyone who isn’t pretending its live action. It’s just not very good animation- Pixar hasn’t released anything as unintentionally uncanny valley as Rafiki or Dumbo since the 90s.

But it's not true in any sense

I mean, I prefer the new Jungle Book to the cartoon. I doubt I will prefer this to the cartoon, but I can't wait to see what Favreau does. Disney didn't have to do a Broadway show for the Lion King either but I sure am glad they did.

I'm... I'm surprised that I am kinda looking forward to it after seeing the new trailer? I wasn't fond of the first trailer at all but I'm now actually kind of hyped.

It'll be weird to not have JTT as little Simba. Or Matthew Broderick as adult Simba. I could forgive changing any other character but I was kind of glad Simba didn't talk in this trailer, put off the pain a little longer.

I think it looks very well-made? But seeing all these characters now, I just don't think photorealistic animals have the same appeal as the cartoon versions that can actually emote. Scar in this version just doesn't appeal to me as much as the original design of Scar? And seeing a photorealistic meerkat singing whilst riding a photorealistic warthog just looks stupid imho. Sooo no not my thing

I'm in the camp of "why do they even need to remake this," whenever it comes to live-action CGI reboots anyway, but I think I've finally twigged what puts me off about this one in particular, and it's the facial expressions, or lack of. That shot where Simba steps into the pawprint had so much raw emotion and personality on his face in the original, and here he just kind of... looks up, and there's nothing there. It looks really visually impressive, at least. Idk, the original is one of my all-time favourite movies and I just don't feel like this was needed. :(

Re: The Lion King trailer

(Anonymous) 2019-04-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the same thing! Scar has more emotion when he tells Simba to run than Simba does at any point in the trailer.

I am not enthused.

Jeremy Irons is best Scar. Fight me.

Also, probably won't see, but only because TLK in any version is just... ~meh~ to me. I really only like Be Prepared and listening to JI talk.

Scar from the Broadway performance is best Scar. Fight me.
