Re: Whatchya doin'?

What's your poison when you go through a whole six pack? I tend to stick to cheap lagers so I don't feel like I'm gonna die, but I don't feel like I'm getting my bang for my buck, either.

Laundry, a walk, and then labelling plastic sandwich bags with seed varieties and putting a few seeds and half a paper towel in each one. I would start them all in pots, but this way it’s easier to keep them from drying out until they germinate.

Just think about a FFXV where your Noctis can choose to romance any of the guys, Lunafreya, Aranea, or Gladio's little sister. Maybe you can even have a one night stand with Ardyn?

I think that'd work pretty well and not drastically change the story.

(That way I'd have gotten to make sweet sweet love to Ignis before Altissia)

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
To this day I'm upset that there was no "make sweet, emotionally intense love to Prompto in the safe room of Zegnautus Keep" minigame.

... you know what, I think I might actually be inclined to agree. I could see numerous games benefiting from it, if handled well. The option to interact directly with characters on a personal level and have your choices affect their dialogue is always appreciated. While I might not personally try to woo a lot of these characters, having the option to do so is always amusing.

That one’s version of Beautiful Soup stuck with me for years. It’s lovely.

Agreed, I always wanted to date the Duck Hunt dog.

NAYRT - I feel the need to ask if you are into Lana Del Rey. Seems like she'd be right up your alley.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
but I wouldn't ever tell the author.

How is that remotely in doubt? Like, I don't think it's at all weird, but I'd still never tell the author I'd done it. That would be weird, and rude.

I highly doubt anyone in this thread who is doing this is telling the author about it afterwards.

While Prompto is not my type, I get you. Poor thing. He almost broke my heart.

Then again I was literally traumatised by this part of the game. Especially since I don't like being "alone" and jump scares get me every time. And I was really worried about Ignis - I was legit worried he wouldn't make it.

And I wish we could have gotten at least a kiss after Noctis comes back. Or before we say goodbye for the last time.

The option to download should be something the author can disable.

I agree with this. However, I spent five years in and old-ass fandom, c/ping every fic I read into a word file before I read it because I hated the formatting of old fic hosting websites. And let me tell you, the time and effort it takes to Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+P is extremely minimal.

So disabling the download function would only deter the borderline-indifferent and the extremely lazy.

Actually I remember thinking there might be something between Jensen and Pritchard in Deus Ex. I wish you could have done something about it.

My dream ever since I played KH1 was to romance Riku as Sora, so I guess I have to agree with you.

I'm trying to think about a game I played where that wouldn't work but I can't think of one. Spec Ops, maybe?

Nothing like being brainwashed from a young age and then acting like your interest is a thing that came about organically and saying "most women love them" like you speak for all of us. Not to mention acting like these things don't have negative real world effects.

Eugenia

At this point, all I can think of when I hear this name is that youtuber who may well die of starvation at any time. I don't know if I always disliked the name, but it certainly doesn't come with positive connotations now. :/

I find this thread incredibly fascinating. I'd always made the assumption that fic writers who posted to AO3 were cool with people downloading their fic since that's a known feature of the site. I never felt weird about downloading fic from AO3 since, again, that's an option everyone is aware of.

If I find I fic I really love on LJ/DW/ff.net/etc and I want to save it, I'll usually ask for permission from the writer since those sites don't have a dl feature. I've done this about a dozen times and every writer I've asked has given me the go-ahead to dl their fic. One writer even sent me a word doc with their fic so I didn't have to copy-paste it myself. I don't have to ask for permission to dl their fic just like they don't have to give it, but as a writer myself, I just think it's a nice thing to do. (I'm actually quite flattered if people like my work enough to save it, even if I end up hating the fic somewhere down the line. It's nice to know it resonated enough with someone for them to want to reread it at some point.)

However, as I said above, I've never asked on AO3 because I just (apparently falsely) assumed AO3 writers were cool with people saving their stuff. After reading this thread, I may have to rethink that.

SA - I'm drinking Lonely Blonde by Fulton if you happen to be in a region that imports that particular beer. It's a pale ale, but if I drink heavier stuff, I feel like a bowling ball before the night is through. (I do like darker beers, but UGH if I drink before 8:00 pm.)

Honey. You sound old. I’m sure the authors whose works were handwritten bemoaned the invention of the printing press too because they could no longer control the dissemination of their works.

You have rights as the creator. A lot of them end the moment you make something public. If you don’t want people reading your work, fearing one day you’ll be embarrassed by it, there’s a very simple solution: don’t publish it anywhere.

We collect things that spark joy in us. We’re entitled to happiness. If you don’t want people deriving happiness from your work, don’t put it out in the world.

You must accept you will NEVER EVER have complete control over your work once it is out in the public sphere. This isn’t reposting, this isn’t plagiarism. This is retaining a freely posted work for your own private consumption. It’s legal, and it’s harmless. Move on.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
As a consumer of fic, I'm thankful there's the option to download it otherwise I'd lose so many fics I've enjoyed over the years. If I love a fic so much that I'm compelled to save it, then it really makes me happy. So please consider finding some solace in that, OP. You made someone really happy and as long as they're just keeping the fic to themselves rather than reposting it, then what's the harm?

I draw fanart, which naturally ages much worse than fanfic ever could, so I can understand artists deleting their work and cringing at it and the idea of people downloadin it, but I don't really understand how a fic writer can feel the same?

A series of historical murder mysteries based on the Benjamin January books. Some group like the studio that did Phryne Fisher, hopefully, because they had a good touch with style and popping characters, and dark plots without actual torture-porn gristle involved.

And Aldis Hodge as January. (I mostly know him from Leverage, but he's very good at sombre and intense when given the appropriate role, and January had moments of humour and fast-talking, so.)

Re: Terrible names

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I love it when people talk about "Anglo-Saxon names" and proceed to list a bunch of biblical names and I think "LOL you have no idea what Anglo-Saxon names actually sound like."

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure my own personal interest came from being sexually abused circa age 3. Not sure why all those other women like it. But it does sell a lot of books, doesn't it? I was speaking for all those women who buy them. Not all women. Perhaps you misread that. :)

It's cool if you don't like it. No need to be so condescending and contemptuous about it.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hell yeah, her lyrics, her vintage look, everything. YUM.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
You jest, but imagine having a cute 8-bit partner to help up your shooting game. Maybe they'd have a dog too!

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's very, very similar to Storm Hawks was my first thought.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't be against this as long as it's optional and not mandatory for plot.

And as long as the characters in question aren't like ten year olds or something.
