but are interested otherwise, do you boycott it, pirate it, or buy it?

Mostly thinking about game industry abuse, but finding out the creator's a dick also applies here.

It depends so much on the context that it's really impossible to give a general answer. I definitely take it into account, though.

I think it would depend on the circumstances, since to me there's a huge difference between, "The person who designed this is a dick." and "This item was created using the blood of homeless children."

The later doesn't stop most people from buying electronics though

I would hope that no actual blood goes into electronics. Jeez, I can't even get mine wet or they die!

It depends. I’d never buy anything Roman Polanski made, for example, but I don’t even know who all signed various things in support of him. I think Disney’s actions re: copyright suck diseased donkey balls, but I still watch Disney (and Marvel, and Fox, etc) movies.

If Johnny Depp had a bit part in, say, a Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein film (please no) I would still watch it. If I was curious about something with a bunch of douchebags involved, I’d probably wait until my local library got copies in. I save pirating for out of print or otherwise unavailable in the US stuff.

If it's some piece of media I can probably get from the library eventually, or watch on broadcast television if it's a show or movie, I'll go that route since I'm not paying for it directly that way.

For everything else, it depends on what those circumstances were, whether it was something I actually needed vs. merely wanted, and whether there were alternatives available. It can be difficult to completely boycott large food/drug businesses, for example, because their reach is so broad.

Pirate. I mean, just because Polanski's a filthy child rapist doesn't mean his movies aren't fantastic. I'm gonna watch them.

Depends. Attack on Titan’s creator is some kind of Japanese imperialism apologist, but I wasn’t interested in their work in the first place. I’m annoyed with JKR, but I had so many fond memories of the books that I might try watching the 3rd FB movie even if I thought the 2nd one sucked.

Boycott. Finding out something bad about a creator or content kinda poisons the whole experience for me.
