Re: genealogy

Well, not so much for black people descended from slaves.

Both! I mean when people interpret the entire canon via their ship, and what supports it (i.e. everything). So one meta writer might talk about how a scene is about John and Jane's trust in the face of a growing government conspiracy. That might be shippy or not. But the shipping meta writer I'm talking about would discuss how the whole conspiracy is designed to push John and Jane closer together because they are destined and the Men in Black know this and here are the three scenes where John is in front of a green background while Jane is working with Mary, showing how he is jealous and they must be together again.

Iirc that was crap started by a Marvel Twitter fanboy who thinks he's in the "know" but just wishes he was.

That said it wouldn't surprise me if their emphasis on "starring" is a distraction from the fact he'll just be narrating, given how badly Marvel Studios has handled Loki's popularity recently and totally misjudged what fans of the character would like to see.

Of course, and it's obviously the case that non-white people do use the thing, but it is still a different historical experience and concept

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
you could just do it regardless whether it's disney (which it is not, obviously)... you make the rules for your playlists.

Re: What scars do you have?

Pockmark on my left shoulder, vaccination scar. Crescent moon shaped scar on my chin from when I went arse over teakettle as a kid and rammed the handlebar of my bike into my face. Short scar on the back of my hand from our rescue dog. A scar on my bottom lip from something that happened when I was a baby. A thin scar on my forearm from god-knows-what, but I've had it since I was a kid so I'm guessing climbing misadventure.

They asked Carrie Fisher to lose weight, I wouldn't be surprised if it's SOP for all their actors.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I feel awful for saying this, but I struggled with season two, because I wanted a bit more comedy and a bit less preaching to the choir. (Did not try season 3 for that reason)

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
My question exactly. Who the fuck cares what's where on your playlist? God, people are so weird.

Anyone white in the UK is usually a mix of Scots, Irish, Welsh and English. That's what's interesting to me when I research my family history.

Both can go to hell. Poor Sansa gets paired with all the mentally fucked up psychopaths or her cousin.

Re: genealogy

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
That's an entirely US-centric POV.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. Gendrya doesn't seem to have THAT much of an age difference. Jaime and Cersei are twins. Doesn't seem much age difference between Brienne and Jaime. Dany and Jon are about the same age. Unless we are heading into crack territory most of the "canon" pushed ships tend to be more incest than age difference.

This is some stupid bs. Just being trans doesn't make you the voice of God.

Those things have very little to do with actually tracing a family line.

My mother's side of the family did and they got as far as a Huguenots fleeing from France in the 17th century. Before that got a bit tricky without traveling to France to actually look through old church records but the Huguenot background is fairly common in my country.

Pretty big circular burn scar above my right ankle because I managed to climb off the wrong side of my dad's motorcycle when I was a kid and got a second degree burn from touching the exhaust pipe.

Tips of the middle and ring finger of my left hand because I was trying out a new knife sharpening gadget my mother bought and slipped and sliced open my fingers. Was a ridiculously annoying place to cut yourself because it took ages to heal.

I generally scar super easily on my arms so every scratched-open mosquito bite leaves a scar. Yay.

I have quite a few smaller burn scars on my hands because I loved to play with fire when I was younger and only learnt after burning myself several times. The worst is a small circular one on my thumb where I accidentally dripped burning plastic.

Apparently way more white people use them compared to other races, so if you use one and you're white it will tell you much more about the areas your DNA is likely to have come from, whereas if you are black, for example, it will say much less and just "north Africa" instead of narrowing it down. It's supposed to improve if more non-white people use the kits, but it's also an unregulated database of ppls DNA, which is highly skeevy, imo, and I get why people steer clear.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's silly, but in the trailer it wasn't as bad as people had been making it out to be beforehand.

Kidney surgery, gall bladder surgery, box-cutter accident at work.

We've just done that, because we do wonder about half-siblings. Haven't got the results back, they're expected for early May, but I am interested to see what turns up.

Have you ever watched Finding Your Roots?

Yeah, like they'd have fantastic sex after a night where Prentiss made bad choices and got drunk at a shitty bar without Gacia to reign her in. They might even hook up a few more times - maybe even after Dean saved her from a serial killer's ghost.

But she ain't gonna give that fuckboy any more of her time than he deserves. Dean got issues, yo, and Emily actually has her life together thank you very much. She certainly isn't going to stick around much longer after she realises how many most wanted lists he's on.
