I wouldn't say "stupid" but I definitely consider usernames one important clue about whether or not I'm going to like a fic

(Anonymous) 2019-04-22 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you give us an example? I'm kind of LOLing because back when FFnet was the main option for fanfiction, cutting out dumb usernames would leave you with very little to read.

I can't say I pay attention to usernames at all tbh. Usually it's dumb summaries or tags that I don't have an interest in, like ABO etc.

Same here.

I treat it as a very rough, imprecise guide to what part of fandom a writer is coming from

16 year old teen, 4channer, names help establish these things

I know, right? In fact, several times I've found myself knee-deep in a story before accidentally glancing at the username of the author and doing a double-take. But it clearly has no bearing on their writing ability.

over thinking my username

(Anonymous) 2019-04-22 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I always choose silly/funny usernames because fandom is fun to me, not super serious or something to have a big ego about. My fic is earnest, and I'd hope that a funny username expresses humility and self-awareness.

Imo terrible silly pun names are the best

But I'm not OP so take that for what it's worth

I would be more likely to read a fic if the username was a pun, TBH. Otherwise I don't really notice.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-22 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I never take usernames into consideration. I’ve had my share of stupid weeb ones, so I’m not gonna judge someone based on their usernames. I’ll definitely judge the tags they use though.

I would have very little fic to read

(Anonymous) 2019-04-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Most usernames are pretty stupid.

I don't read fic if tags are excessively long. There was one fic I had to scroll so far through the tags just to get to the two sentence description. I don't know why anyone would click on that fic.

We all have our ao3 quirks.

I....barely notice the username, to be honest; if i 'know' the author and like them i get excited, otherwise....who cares? 'Stupid' is pretty much a matter of opinion.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-22 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I can’t afford to be that picky lol. Tho if I don’t like a badfic by xXxXxYaoiiLuvvrxXxXx I only have myself to blame.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-23 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Judging by fandom trends, that author might have been writing fic for a decade. :P

I don't read fics if there's a typo in the title or the description.

Same

(Anonymous) 2019-04-23 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
They're mostly pretty stupid tbh. And maybe it's an old username and they want people to find them on new platforms or they got it because their standby wasn't available.

What, you’re not a fan of AllUrFavesAreTrans?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-23 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I've never once judged the potential quality of a fic based on the author's username and am honestly baffled that there are people that do. It doesn't even compute in my mind.

I don't NOT read fic because of silly usernames, but I have noticed that silly usernames tend to be badfic? And by silly, I don't mean fandom names, which many of us have. I mean names like xXBuffyAngelLuver4EverXx.

And I can't respect an anon who can't edit one short sentence. Funny, isn't it.
