Re: Do you leave reviews on fics?

I always leave kudos. And if I can think of something to say besides "good story," I'll leave a review. I usually like to be specific in a review and point out specific things in the story I liked.

Animation doesn't work for "epic scale" for me. Animation almost always feels smaller to me than live action.

Puritanical fandom can be blamed for plenty, but I don't think I'd blame it for this. I think, for the most part, there aren't a lot of one night stand fics because that's just not what the majority of fandom wants to read and write, the majority of the time. I mean, it's certainly no secret that shipping is...kind of a huge driving force behind a lot of fandom. And for the most part, one night stands just aren't very shippy. Unless you end the fic with them kind of falling for each other and wanting to see each other again - but then it's not so much a one night stand fic as an alternate meeting hookup fic. *shrugs*

I'm not saying no one has ever been kink shamed for writing a one night stand fic. But I don't think shaming and/or fear of shaming accounts for the lack of such fic.

I usually dig sister relationship, but it was too sudden, too one sided for me in the movie. I didn't watch their previous one tho, so that might be the reason.

Have you not been following the Korean sex scandals earlier this year? Tells you more than you ever needed to know on the subject.

LMFAO WOW that was a throwaway comment in a rant thread...should I thank the secret fairy for this or be even more embarrassed? I'm leaning toward the latter.

I mean it's still true but. was not expecting to see it in secret form.

Same.

yes, and it most likely is...but I don't like what that implies about men and hormones.

Rarely because I never know what to say.

yes, what I write depends on the fic.

I think an animated series would work well for some of the spinoffs they've talked about.

Big disagree on the art style.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
What is going on here exactly?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not familiar with the articles in question but like... Rousey was in the news recently for her thing and Carrey hasn't been as far as I'm aware? I don't think that saying someone is shitty at the time when they do something shitty means that you have to cancel everyone for all time always. But again, I'm not totally familiar with the context

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it presumptuous at all?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see both sides.

On one hand, you're right, fandom has always gravitated more to romance and shipfic than PWP in general.

On the other hand, there is a marked decrease in hardcore kink/smut fic, and I absolutely think it's because people are keeping those fics to themselves or their small group of trusted friends rather than putting them out there for general consumption and inevitable harassment by the purity brigade.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah no...this has been going on for a very long time. my first fic posted online was in 1999 and I definitely got weird comments. people were mostly positive but still aggressively enthusiastic about trying to influence the direction of the fic or any future fic.

it's possible a lot of people just didn't see this behavior in the wild for that brief chunk of time between when FF.net banned adult content and AO3 came up, when fics were either on independent shrines, forums, or LJ. and if they didn't see it happen, they also didn't see people react to it by calling out that behavior.

I haven't for about a year now besides a few grossly underappreciated fics. I commented a lot couple of years ago. Idk why is that. I think it's linked to generally feeling like a failure. It somehow feels like a comunication and too much effort, and I also don't have much to tell the authors.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, tbh. :/ It kind of restructures a couple of old relationships of mine that ended up being deeply painful.

I usually just kudos.

Re: Do you leave reviews on fics?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! If I read it all the way to the end, I always try to leave kudos and think of something nice to say in a review. It's not always long, but I try to pick out a few things I enjoyed.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Like how so? Are we talking about 'plz update' type of stuff, or what?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I'm really curious what you think it implies.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, source? Does Ronda Rousey actually think the massacre was a conspiracy? I'm really shocked and disappointed in her if that's the case..

Re: Do you leave reviews on fics?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to at least leave a few words of praise even if I don't say anything specific, but sometimes a fic will move me to really go in-depth into what I loved and what worked so well. I do always kudos, though!

Oddly, it's easier for me to review art. Maybe because there's not as much to talk about? I can mention one thing that I really like about the piece (expressions, colors, poses, etc.) without having to worry to much about "missing" something.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not OP but what happened?
