Not fair to Peggy either, like what happen to the life she's not allowed to lie anymore right! She even told him to move on because she did, and they both were fine with that!! It's bullshit!

She had a husband and kids! But she was reduced back to Captain America's love interest.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-10 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! She is such a good character on her own, she doesn't deserve that!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She still gets the husband and kids in the main timeline. Everything that Steve has with her happens in a vacuum because of the Pym particles.

And like, surely if she was having a serious relationship with some guy when he went back and found her he would have been happy for her and then not stayed that long?

I find this entire thread... disingenuous in tone.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-10 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
-Steve Rogers: You should be proud of yourself, Peggy.

[Steve looks at Peggy's family photos by her bedside table showing her with her husband and children]

-Peggy Carter: Mm. I have lived a life. My only regret is that you didn't get to live yours.

For fans of Peggy, it is sort of annoying that her role in Endgame is reduced back to "pining for Steve THIRTY YEARS AFTER HE IS DEAD"

So unfair to Peggy, how he went back in time, killed her husband and children, put on a record and held a gun to her head.

Presumably he went back to before she got together with her husband. No reason to think she's less happy and fulfilled in a timeline where Steve came back than one where he didn't. It's not like she can compare different possible lives. She can only perceive living one.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-11 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Why is it that Peggy can marry an unnamed man and have kids, and STILL do all kinds of other amazing stuff, but if you replace that unnamed husband with Steve suddenly there's no way she can do the other stuff? You really think Steve, who doesn't have a problem with wonen doing things, who has spent years living in the 21st century, who says he doesn't want a picket fence anymore, is going to insist Peggy stay in the kitchen and make him sandwiches? You really think Peggy would go along with it if he did?

For all we know Steve and Peggy get together and spend their time driving around in a van solving mysteries.

Back with WS, they had lots of movies still to come. In Endgame, it's... the endgame and the actor is leaving. It's a creative choice influenced by reality.

So many more choices they could have made. It was a lame choice.

Everybody else has said this so well, but....
Peggy had moved on, and had a happy life. She said so, she told Steve to stop looking back.

Steve told Tony that the person who wanted a 'picket fence' life was gone.

Steve was actually moving in (horribly, with Sharon, right after PEGGY'S FUNERAL), and until Endgame, wasn't obsessively staring at Peggy's picture all the time.

Even thinking it was an alternate reality/other timeline, and he went back in time to the week after he 'died' or whatever....what happens that THAT timeline's Steve?

So stupid.

(I'm the one, single bitter Peggy/Jarvis shipper lurking on the fringes of this drama. I liked Peggy/Steve, but I liked the most of the guys (and some ladies) from Agent Carter with Peggy better, darn it!)

+1

I'm one of those heretics who didn't care for the way Steve/Peggy was presented in CATFA and liked them both better with other characters. They only work for me as a bittersweet might-have-been.

Replace Jarvis with Howard here and I'm right there with you.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-12 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, there's another Peggy/Jarvis shipper out there?! Hi!

I kind of liked it.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-11 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
A bunch of people have said that he moved on and I don't agree. I think he woke up 70 years in the future, had a huge culture shock, had to help lead a not well integrated team to fight aliens, then had to figure out how he fit anywhere while taking down a threat that should have been long gone, and had to fight a huge part of his past that had been brainwashed (and he gave up there at the end, I believe he would have let Bucky kill him), had to fight stupid Ultron, literally went chasing after his past (Bucky), got exiled, had to leave Bucky to heal in his own way, and was basically on the run. I would say that he maybe got to a place where he wasn't depressed, but then Infinity War happened and he didn't move on from that. I think he thought he should move on and I think he tried to go through the motions, but I don't think he actually moved on. As for Peggy, I have no idea what time he went back to and reunited with her, but he very easily could have made it before she had moved on. And it would pretty much have to be in a different timeline (and I'm pretty sure he would have told her everything), so that would have been a much different story. And they got their dance.

I feel the same way. I think Steve was trying to get comfortable in the 21st century but it was still a work in progress and he hadn't made it as far as he acted like he did. The came the snap and things went to shit.

I think it's all open to interpretaion how honest Steve was being about moving on (honest with himself, included) but I'm willing to interpret it this way.

All of this. (Also, the reaction of the two Steves to the compass with her picture? Did not seem to be the reaction of fellows who had moved on.)

In Agent Carter she was very definitely still actively mourning him. There was a episode of AC where she and Howard recovered a vial of Steve's blood (and so potentially more superserum could have been made) and iirc Peggy hid it in her apartment in a sort of "this is a piece of him that I can still be near to," but in the end, she winds up pouring it out into a river (while sobbing) as a symbol of her acceptance that he's really gone.

To me, he went back before that happened.

I feel like I’m the only Steggy shipper that would rather have seen Peggy come to the future rather than Steve go back to the past. I know there’s probably issues with that too, but I adore Peggy, and I’ve always wanted to see her interact with the current Avengers gang. On the other hand, I’ve always hated the idea of Steve going back to the past, and I was so depressed to learn that was going to be his MCU “happy ending” after all.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD. I never thought about that! Peggy in the future would have been AMAZING.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-11 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I understand it as a narrative short-cut which is supposed to mean "happy ending", but I do not love it and I actively try not to think too much about it (because when I think too long about it I remember that he spent more than a decade in the future and knew her for a relatively short time, so he might not even lover the real her anymore, just the idea of her, and he did have all this new life, I can't imagine abandoning everything I have now and going back ten years to a totally different place even if I really did want to be there at the time, it's a long time, you do move on etc. Generally it's all tad too much of a "romance" trumps all kind of thing. But that's my narrative preference and we definately are not meant to think about it too long. And tbh it's one of the easiest ways to signal a happy ending - the guy gets the girl, sun shines, they have a house in the suburbs and what not)
