Did they say it though.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that what you wanted? You wanted Dumbledore and/or Grindelwald to outright say, "we were in love"?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, actually. It would take all of a single second, presumably while they're already discussing their history with each other. Or would that that be absolutely impossible?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be unbelievable to me if either of them openly discussed their history with each other.

I know you don't agree. I know you don't care. I know you want your representation no matter what. I don't. I want believable characters and a slow reveal. So it feels pointless to discuss further.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You're damn right I want my representation no matter what, because right now I have to beg for scraps. But so sorry, pardon me for thinking "I loved him" is a believable thing for a person so say in a movie full of magical creatures. My bad.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do you think it would be unbelievable?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both private people, Dumbledore especially. They both regret and resent the relationship. They are both trying their best to forget they ever had those feelings at all - and failing spectacularly, as the film showed us, in what I consider an organic and remarkably clear and undeniable way.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's no way that you could have an unambiguous reference that worked with those factors? It's literally impossible?

Why not? If neither of them actually said that they were in love in the movies people can argue that they’re heterosexuals.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ding ding, there it is!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the second of a five movie arc. Dumbledore was barely introduced in it. Give them time.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What's the acceptable period of time before we can say two characters dated? For straight people it seems to be one movie.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you're being disingenuous are or you're just obtuse but the two characters didn't get a chance to interact yet and one of them was in the film for maybe ten minutes.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Did their past relationship come up?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Dumbledore said "We were closer than brothers" to someone interrogating him about it. As it was he was effectively under a form of house arrest because of his past involvement with Grindelwald, saying that they used to play hide the sausage isn't something that would help him.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because "I loved him" is the same as saying "we dicked down hard every night, yo"

I'm sorry, but given that we know that Dumbledore's brother liked to fuck goats -and that was put IN the books-, I think we could have had something better than "We were like brothers". At the very least a "I was put in house arrest for my feelings for him", or "despite all he's done, I can't hate him" Or SOMETHING that can't be ambiguously handwaved by the straight audience (And yes, I've heard people who claim Dumbledore is not gay and that it's all "fanfiction stuff")

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Shit I forgot about Abelforth oh my god you're right.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
There was nothing about Aberforth fucking goats.

That you assumed 'inappropriate jinxes' involving goats automatically meant animal fucking says more about you than anything else.

Says the person talking about a series where it took seven books for the reveal that Snape was friends with and in love with Harry's mom?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Snape's creepy crush is for another thread.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But... that's because it was meant to be a big dramatic reveal for plot reasons. We, as readers, already do know that there was a relationship in this case. There's no dramatic value to not displaying it. It's a totally different situation.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There is plenty of dramatic value to having it revealed when the two have an actual confrontation with one another where it has the most meaning.
