Joaquin Phoenix

I mean, he hasn't been in many things I've wanted to watch.

Shia Labeouf gives me pause. I might watch something with him in it, but it would have to have a lot going for it.

Shia Labeouf, forgot about him. I will watch him in Holes (idc what anyone says that is an enjoyable movie) but other than that, nope the fuck out.

What has Joaquin Phoenix done? (Said?)

Well there's this (description from Wikipedia):
Phoenix unexpectedly announced in late 2008 that he had retired from acting to pursue a rapping career, and that the forthcoming Two Lovers would be his last film. On February 11, 2009, Phoenix appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to promote Two Lovers. He seemed incoherent and was largely unresponsive towards David Letterman's questions about the film and his career plans.Phoenix appeared on Late Show again on September 22, 2010, and revealed that his "retirement" and eccentric behavior were for a mockumentary, I'm Still Here (2010), that he and Casey Affleck were filming.

But there's also his membership in and campaigning for PETA and the maybe involvement with Casey Affleck's sexual misconduct.

Did Shia actually do something? I thought he just went a little crazy train and assumed he had some mental health problems like Amanda Bynes.

He made a short film (I think) that was that was more or less completely ripping off someone else's comic or something.

IIRC it was a film adaptation of a comic that he promoted as a competently original short film that he wrote all on his own, got a lot of praise for, then it turned out that he had just made a shot-for-shot film version of this comic. When he got caught, he made a bunch of really over the top apologies, like having a small plane circle over Los Angeles while pulling a banner that said "I'm sorry."

For me, it's the arrests, the "performance art", the plagiarism, the frankly weird and creepy Sia video, and whatever the hell went on with the movie Fury - "David (Ayer, director) told us right from the gate: ‘I need you to give me everything.’ So the day after I got the job, I joined the US National Guard. I was baptised – accepted Christ in my heart – tattooed my surrender and became a chaplain’s assistant to Captain Yates for the 41st Infantry. I spent a month living on a forward operating base. Then I linked up with my cast and went to Fort Irwin. I pulled my tooth out, knifed my face up and spent days watching horses die. I didn’t bathe for four months.".

He has been in treatment for alcoholism and been diagnosed with PTSD and that's maybe a reason for some of it.

Shia I honestly just feel bad for. He had such a bizarre, Hollywood-saturated upbringing that there was no way he was ever gonna come out of it not off his rocker. He's weird, but like... I can't honestly blame him for it.
