This just makes me wonder if OP finds anyone attractive.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I asked when it was a comment, actually!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not? There's at least one aro/ace poster that posts about it every so often here.

Or if it's not that, it could be the whole artificial Hollywood star effect and they prefer more average people or something.

OP of the comment used for the secret

Yep I do actually. Not many people though. About 10 people total over the course of my lifetime so far. I'm not aro or ace.

I hate how lupita's brother hogged the selfie when he isn't even an actor

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Why? A selfie is not an exclusive club you cannot enter without some level of stardom? People around him posed for one and he was supposed to be all like "oh, no, without me, I am but a humble no-body"...? It's only a selfie.

everyone else there was a celeb, so he sticks out like a sore thumb

Okay? I mean - good, I guess, if it doesn't bother you/you don't care.
Bad, I suppose, if you wish you could find someone attractive that had potentially all kinds of photos and interviews and parts.

It's all so subjective, so - you do you.

So...

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
not one famous athlete or musician or politician or writer or director or actor or model or astronaut or scientist or entrepreneur? Is it their celebrated status that makes them unattractive or are you just not attracted to many people at all?

Re: So...

OP of comment used for the secret.

I find people attractive for sure, although not many. I can see celebrities are attractive but they just don't do anything for me, no famous person does. I guess it's because they're some random person I don't know?

(Wow this is weird. I didn't wake up this morning expecting to have to explain any of this on FS.)

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with everyone who is skeptical here. After all, there's a difference between "attractive" and "attracted to". I think anyone can acknowledge someone is objectively and/or conventionally attractive, even if they're not personally attracted to them.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think "find someone attractive" generally entails being personally attracted to them

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree. Hence my comment demonstrating the nuanced difference between the two.

DA, but no? There are plenty of celebrities who I think are objectively attractive, they just aren't my personal type.

yeah but usually when you're chatting about it to other people, the question "isn't X is hot?" has the implication that the asker is in fact attracted to X. they're not asking if you consider them conventionally attractive in the abstract sense, they're asking if you, like they, are attracted to X.

I agree with the secret OP, I remember that thread and the responses here just make me feel all the more abnormal because I don't, in fact, consider any celebrity attractive beyond "well they have a symmetrical face" or "that is a good haircut on them." it's possible to not engage with celebrity information very much, especially if you don't see many movies. maybe I'm broken. maybe I don't see real people often enough to care. maybe I'm just old and jaded. maybe people aren't as hot as they used to be. I used to think Ewan McGregor was pretty hot back in my youth. now I can't be arsed to give a shit.

I've found actors attractive enough in certain roles but I've also never really been particularly attracted to the actors themselves.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Same.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I’ll be attracted to an actor or a character... for a couple days. Then it all wears off and I don’t really see what I thought I saw before? I kind of miss out on the crushing on celebs my friends like to do, but I guess if I’d rather not be able to keep my interest than go too far the three way and be crushed every time I’m reminded they’re just eye candy to be admired from afar.

Hello, Ugly Anon!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
OP of comment

Wouldn't ugly anon have been more specific? Like 'I hate ScarJo's freak ears' or something lol. This would've been quite a tame secret for them. ;)

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the same as many posters here. Do you find people IRL attractive? In which case you may be just demi or asexual :).
Also agree that attractiveness is subjective.
Look at all the arguments on here about the attractiveness or not of Adam Driver! (and for me- yes, very attractive).

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
I find people in RL attractive for sure. Celebrities are just a wash of humanity to me though. Your example of Adam Driver - I honestly couldn’t tell you whether he was supposed to be attractive or not, just as I couldn't say that for Brad Pitt or George Clooney.

In RL it's much the same. The only thing that makes me view someone as either beautiful or ugly is their attitude or actions. Otherwise no idea who is supposed to be conventionally attractive or not.

No idea what label that makes me. Not eager to try and shove myself in a box like that.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I'm kind of the opposite of you, OP. I'm ace/aro and am never attracted to people in RL, but I'm somewhat attracted to celebs all the time. The only thing is, my attraction to celebs is kind of abstracted. Like, I feel very drawn to them, and kind of crush-y, but I don't have any desire to actually date them or be physically involved with them.

I think the reason I can be attracted to celebs and not to people in RL is because with celebs I don't feel like I need to worry about them wanting to date me or have sex with me; there's no potential for that.
