What's the difference between fanartists and fan writers here

Fanart is often in a material form like a badge or enamel pin of your fave character, both of which cost money to make. It's also easier to appreciate fanart that's barebones and unpolished, like a pencil sketch of your otp.

Fanfiction is usually digitized and online instead of in print and why should people pay money for something there's so much of out in the world? It's also harder to appreciate fanfiction that's barebones and unpolished, like a badfic that the fanfiction writer didn't beta for SPAG or an imagine fanfiction that's basically a fanfiction outline. Why should people pay for such low tier writing? You will find that the good writers usually don't ask for money and often are authors who publish or plan to publish under their real names because they don't need to make money from fandom.

then no writer should ever be paid ever under this umbrella of "logic". after all, even though books are physical, there's no "value" to it according to you.

fanfiction and fanart are the same things - some people choose to use fanfic as a way to work on and improve their skills as much as fanart is. fanart has a lot of "low-tier" artists around - the only reason we know of the more popular artists is just because of that. honestly, shove it up your pretentious ass.

I agree. Which is why I think people who choose fanfiction as a way to work on and improve their creative skills should get published. Published as in writing novels that they make whole cloth with brand new characters instead of fanfiction.

i don't think you also realize some people are also under financial scrutiny that doing fanfic could very well help them get that money until they can either get on their feet, get that Original Novel out, or whatever.

I would suggest that those people try to submit short stories to magazines and websites so they can both get that money and build connections in the industry.

you make it sound it's so easy when you know it's not. stop being purposefully obtuse and just say you see no value in budding writers using fanfic as a way to either enhance their craft to survive and/or use it as a starting point for their writing career.

Many writers worked and juggled jobs while enhancing their craft and writing their first novel, JKR among them. How does saying this make me someone who sees no value in writing?

Putting your fanfic behind a paywall or getting a Patreon doesn't mean you're going to start making money off of it, though, because people might decide it's just not worth it to them to read if they have to pay, or they might chose not to donate if they can read without donating. Most people aren't going to pay for fic from an author whose work they don't know unkess there are free samples (I can flip through a published book in tge store before i buy it). At the end of the day, you have to persuade people to buy what you're selling.

Just snap their fingers and get published, huh

Just as hard as actually making money with art.
