Dany was saving her own ass just as much. And, Dany was *very* clearly not going to give the North their independence that Jon was a moron and gave away for no reason.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He did it because he saw how much Dany was sacrificing for him.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He did it because he was an idiot who thinks with his dick.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe he realized that the kingdoms remaining united was important and a good thing and that even if they defeated the Night King, there could always be future threats. The North being independent is a stupid ending. All that means is when a new enemy comes in, the North dies first.

Dany didn't need to help him. Or she could have forced him to bend the knee before she did anything. Or she could have had him help her take Westeros before she helped him in the North. She did none of that.

You play to win the game. You don't play it just to play it. You play. To win. The game.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's the great thing about the great game: you play to win.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Sansa reminded me of brexiters, with her talk of evil foreigners and how the north didn't need anyone.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a bad simplistic analogy and it seems so bad that I almost think it was intentional.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sansa reminded me of Native Americans, with her talk of evil foreigners and how the north didn't need anyone.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The difference being the North did need Dany and her dragons and her armies right before.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How is that a justification? I am confused about the reasoning here

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that game can be won without playing dirty.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it have to be won? How about people just stop playing. For a while that seemed what Dany's storyline was before they botched it.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-31 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Historically speaking, it's quite difficult to just sort of unilaterally renounce realpolitik / violence / an illiberal political order.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think opting to sit out a major civil war and ice zombie invasion isn't really possible.

I don't hate Sansa, but yeah... I hate how the writing was. I hate how Sansa and everyone else were kind of cold or indifferent to Dany, just so that the payoff could be "well, they were right! Dany was gonna go nutz at the drop of a hat (or in this case, the ring of a bell)!" Just meh. It's great Sansa got to keep her part of the country but it didn't have to come at the cost of crapping on Dany's character. (I'm not referring to Dany going crazy, I'm referring to how lazily written the path to crazy was.)

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Sansa didn't come off well and Dany seemed justified in her anger until she sacked the city. It was just sloppy writing.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO

I can't even articulate how satisfying it was for me to see Sansa become queen and Dany crash and burn in such a spectacular way. Sansa, Queen in the North, and final boss!Dany were two of the things I wanted most out of canon, whoop. I was pretty sure we were getting the latter, but thought maybe I was hoping for too much with the former. And the fact that Bran, not Jon or Dany, ended up ruling all the rest of Westeros is just icing on the cake.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who remembers how much the fandom hated Sansa for being "weak" and pitted her against Dany and Arya, the Good Strong Female Characters who could fight and take names, I agree. I hope they're embarrassed or pissed off. It's what they deserve.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-01 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
They're pissed off at the bad and rushed writing, yes.

Are the Sansa fans pissed that everyone is talking about Dany's storyline and not hers?
