John's wife being the actor's real wife. It was too distracting. She's a great actress, but... I feel the same about Sherlock's parents.

AtLA casting was a mess besides Aang.

I think I mentioned this recently, but Gerard Butler as the Phantom. I’m not sure who I’d cast to replace him; if I was gonna do something similar to the stage musical’s original Phantom and cast against type, maybe Will Ferrell? And Emmy Rossum as Christine didn’t have the voice for her part either. I think I’d go with Anne Hathaway, who apparently auditioned, but was super creeped out by the idea of 16 year old Christine with a 34 year old Phantom who had basically groomed her since she was like, six.

Which idea was Joel “batnipples” Schumacher’s, so even though he’s not an actor, I’d replace him with Guillermo del Toro. Not because I necessarily think he’d be a great fit for the ALW musical, but because I just want him to direct a Phantom of the Opera adaptation, and he could hardly do a worse job.

Weekend Plans?

What is everyone doing this weekend?

I made it to Tulsa where my sister lives. Got lost and almost died. Going shopping tomorrow to get stuff for my trip. Sunday I am going to meal prep for next week.

Reading! I've barely read at all in the past couple weeks and it's supposed to rain all weekend so I'm looking forward to just curling up with a book.

Also possibly baking, I realized I have everything I need for chocolate chip cookies. :D

Yikes, glad you’re okay! What happened?

I’m going to work on a costume for SDCC (not sure if I’m gonna start a new one, spruce up an old one, or both) and kill more weeds out front.

I’d also like to plant some of the massive (for my budget, anyway) amount of native and drought tolerant plants I bought in the areas I’m done weeding.

Unfortunately, the roadwork crew are busy digging the street up (again! wtf, they’ve dug up the intersection on my corner three times in the last six years!) so I’m leery of planting stuff they might run over with a backhoe (like the park strip the last time I planted stuff there) or dump cement-laden water over (like my volunteer cherry tomatoes yesterday) or leave covered in construction equipment and tarps for two years (like the long side of the park strip I just finished clearing of weeds (where I found a bunch of giant rusted out pipe fittings from the last time the road crew passed through.)

More job applications. Probably see Dark Phoenix at some point. I know the reviews are terrible, but I still want to see it, even though I'm way more excited for Men in Black: International and have a pass for that one for Tuesday. Other than that, go to the local pool at some point and watch something. Not entirely sure what yet.

My strawberry patch is having a bumper crop so the birds and I are having a war. They get the ones that are going off, because I just toss them into the yard, but they want top goods! No, birds! Those berries are mine!

Fancy cheap food

Have you ever cooked something cheap in a fancy way or used expensive ingredients to make gussied-up junk food?

Inspired by the fact that I make a kind of peperonata/relish out of bell peppers, red onion, thyme, butter, white wine, and balsamic vinegar to put on (fake, I don’t even eat meat) hot dogs.
