What are some things you really love but don't do fandom for?

Inspired by my current Criminal Minds rewatch. I adore Criminal Minds. One of my favorite shows. But I don't do fandoms. The show is enough for me. I don't read fics or ship anything (well, except a bit of JJ/Will on the show) or join in fandom discussions about the show. I just watch the show.

Most sitcoms I watch. I really enjoyed That 70s Show and The Big Bang Theory, but I just watched them and didn’t participate in fandom for them. I didn’t realize The Big Bang Theory was so hated until it ended and everyone was rejoicing.

I came across someone who had an entire fanblog dedicated to imagining that they and Harry Styles were running The Amazing Race.

I like TAR but I never knew people felt that strongly about it.

I love Boardwalk Empire but I've NEVER seen so much as one fanfic for it.

Serious stuff like Band of Brothers. Most music I listen to. Contest type shows like Bake Off. I'll talk about them with friends IRL sometimes but not friends that are in fandom.

Define fandom?

Really cutting back on social media but I still obsessively watch stuff with my partner and analyze the shit out of it.

Every comedy I have ever watched like Parks and Rec, The Good Place, etc. Prestige dramas like Band of Brother, The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc.

Same for me, re: Criminal Minds. I like it, but i'm not interested in reading any fic unless it's an xover with Supernatural (and i'm happy for the CM to be gen. Except for Garcia and Derek).

Same for SVU, NCIS...pretty much any procedural or drama-type tv show i might like/watch. I'm just not in it for the 'ships.

Mystery novels in general, with a few exceptions. Most of the ones I read probably don't have fanfic anyway but I don't go looking for it.

CSI would hit that box for me! Also Stranger Things, Futurama... nearly any thing that is TV series based. Avatar+LoK my one exceptions to that.

nearly everything I watch - in a fandom sense definitely Star Trek, Stargate, Rick & Morty, and all movies. if there is a fandom for food and baking shows I don't even want to know.

come to think of it I really only do fandom for the two manga I follow and one of the three video game series I actively play.

I've tried to do fandom for GLOW, but I mainly just watch the show for Jenny Chey, portrayed by Ellen Wong. I've seen gif sets of her, though. I'm looking forward to season 3. I hope she has her own episode.

Overwatch League. I love it a lot but I just enjoy watching it and the teams and the casters. Plus it's real people and I wouldn't ever fandom anything with real people. D:

Gonna stick with ships for this, because if I branch out to friendships and familial relationships there's just way too many!

Will/Hannibal - Hannibal (I only sort of ship this, but like, I do really love their relationship for the complexly psychological, intense, horrifying thing it is.)

Virginia Johnson/Bill Masters - Master Of Sex (Virginia deserves SO. MUCH. BETTER. than Bill I-emotionally-hurt-everyone-in-my-life-because-I-have-issues Masters, but I can't help myself, I ship it anyway.)

Monica/Chandler - FRIENDS (Because it's a sitcom, the show occasionally has them do some pretty not-good things in the name of getting laughs - let's call it "sitcom-itis." But exempting the occasional blip of sitcom-itis, I think their relationship was actually a really good example of two fairly high-maintenance people who knew they would have to put in real effort and sometimes make sacrifices in order to make their relationship work, and who valued each other and their relationship enough to do all of that. And who consistently found ways of supporting each other and helping each other grow, through thick and thin.)
