100% absolutely cosigned. Cannot stand him and wish he wasn't in anything and this would be up my alley if he wasn't in it. Thankfully Netflix has at least gotten the message not to recommend Sandler movies to me after I only had to go through and thumbs down all his movies.

Isn't the basis of this like any other Sandler movie though?

Ehhh, not really. Looking at most of Sandler's movies, changing out his role for another actor wouldn't make me want to watch it. But I might watch a comedy centered around a murder mystery if Adam Sandler wasn't in it.

aside from making some shitty movies, has he done anything THAT bad?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-26 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
he actually seems like a really nice, down to earth person.

+1

No, just all his movies are the same kind of shitty. OP isn't saying they hate his very existence, just his presence in movies.

It's a sign of the times that everyone's first assumption if you don't like an actor's work is that they must be some kind of creep or criminal. Sandler's just aggressively one note, and it's a screechy, off-key note that doesn't appeal to a lot of people.

This. I'm just super picky about my comedy (I get SUPER secondhand embarrassment about a lot of things) and his style of comedy usually hits all of my dnws.

I don't like him or his movies generally but watched this anyway for Jennifer Aniston in the hopes it might be not bad like 50 first dates was not bad.

But I can tell you that you aren't missing anything by not watching Murder Mystery. It was on the low side of average. And that's me being generous. They had NO on-screen chemistry, and I didn't buy them being a married couple at all, I've seen more intimacy between strangers in romance movies, and Adam Sandler was just playing Adam Sandler as he does.

I don't know that it would have been better with a different male lead as the plot was a bit wishy washy too. Couldn't have been worse, anyway. Be glad you haven't wasted time on it.

I want to like the movies both these actors make. And Murder Mystery seems like something in my wheelhouse except I am almost certain it'll be full of toilet humor and I can't.do.that.

Oh man, yeah-- when I saw 'Murder Mystery' was on the list of titles of new things coming to netflix, I was jazzed. Then I found out it was one of the Adam Sandler things, and... ugh.

I don't know if it's that he's just gotten less funny, or if it's that I was in middle school when he last did something I enjoyed... but it feels like he's gotten lazier, and I've been uncomfortable with some of the jokes in more recent things. I just have to give him a pass now.

I'll still sing along with his Hanukkah song every year, though. I'll give him that.

I can't stand either of them, so I'll definitely be avoiding it!
