Fictional history books

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-06-29 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for fictional history books. Books that explore the history of fleshed-out fictional worlds. Things like the Silmarillion or like Fire and Blood by GRRM (which I'm currently reading and is probably my favorite book by him).

I'd also be interested in links for fantasy or scifi books that are heavy on the history set-up for the worlds even if they aren't full-on history books.

I just really like the idea of history books for fictional worlds, and I'm interested to see if there are any more out there.

Maybe "Star Wars Propaganda: A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy"? It's told from an in-universe prospective of the change of propaganda from before the Clone Wars through to the Sequel Trilogy. It really fleshes out the politics of the SW universe.

Anyone have any Thorin/Thranduil or Thranduil/Bard fic? No preference for top/bottom and doesn't have to be porn, plot is more than welcome!

Rec for where a first time solo female traveler should visit.

I prefer museums/history over nature.

Within a specific country or generally internationally?

None in particular. I am interested in both Europe and Asia.

A large city, then. Personally, I think Paris and/or London are hard to beat. Both have fairly convenient public transportation systems (certainly by American standards), both are accustomed to tourists, and both have great museums and historical sites that are mostly concentrated in a central location. If English is your native language, then try London.

Yeah, London was recced twice. So I will look into it. Hostels and such.

London has some great museums and historical sites. Washington, DC has the Smithsonian (which is actually quite a few museums) and a lot of monuments. Many major US cities have science museums and natural history museums (my favorites). Wherever you go, you should make sure you know a least a little of one of their official languages (or major ones, since some don't have an official one) and at least some of the etiquette rules. If you're not going to drive, make sure there is a good transportation system.

Thanks! London might work. I have been to DC and loved it.

Since you said you are interested in Asia: Japan is very safe and if you stay in the known tourist spots, the language barrier wouldn't be that much of a problem.

I'd stay clear of India and China as a solo female traveler for now.

Nice BDSM

BDSM with a caring Dom/Domme. No humiliation or dub-con. Negotiation is a plus. Aftercare is a must.

None of these should have humiliation because that is a huge squick of mine. These are only the ones I have that explicitly had aftercare in the tags. I have other BDSM but not sure how much aftercare would be in them.

Far Cry 5

I think I've read pretty much everything I like on AO3, but if you think something's a hidden gem, feel free to point it out.
I've been enjoying the hell out of "man has no choice (when he wants everything)", "Welcome To The Family" was delightful, "Here We Go Again" was great (if occasionally... messy), and "Sign with Poison in My Heart" is sort of messed up but all the bits with the Deputy being loved and supported by her friends make me feel warm and squishy inside. So if you know anything along any of those lines, please throw me a link! c:
