Why does it matter? It's voice acting (and before anyone argues about representation matters, these are not white voice actors taking black roles from black voice actors, they're fucking animals).

It does take place in Africa.

I mean, if people get to argue that a fictional Arendelle doesn't have to have any people of color because it's Scandinavian (which I think is a stupid argument, but it happened), then when something takes place in Sub-Saharan Africa, in Swahili-speaking regions, I think a stronger argument could be made, not just for black voice actors, but, you know, for Swahili-speaking African actors, actually.

You think it's a stupid argument to not have coloured people in ye olde time Scandinavia? Ahahahahaha

MTE. It seems more than a little racist to me to imply that there's somehow a difference between the way white voice actors sound versus the way black voice actors sound.

This comment makes me think you don’t watch much animation.. There isn't always, but quite often, you can tell based on the rasp and timbre of the VA’s voice what race they are. Not that it says anything about talent, but the difference is recognizable for those with smaller range.

Then you have the crazy versatile ones that can play a range of races, but they definitely do perform to that, employ distinct inflection for black v white v Asian v Hispanic. Phil Lamar, Dee Bradley Baker, and Carlos Alazraqui all come to mind.
