But that doesn't mean that people, little black girls especially, can't like the casting because of it. I'm not going to praise Disney 'till the cows come home for this, but I am happy that black girls and women are getting something potentially positive from it.
Just in general why does this argument only come up when it's a woman of colour(and non-white films as well, I remember seeing this exact same shit said about Black Panther before it came out) being given a role? And never for films like say, Captain Marvel, which were done for the exact same 'trying to make money by appealing to a specific demographic' reasons?
(Whether it's alright on the writing side of things given that it's white directors/writers remains to be seen, but I'll give it that chance before writing it off).
Edit: words

If they did and I missed it then hey I'm wrong, but it's still a boggling argument to make because every decision made by a large business is done in order to make money. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy what they produce.

This sort of stuff has the ability to brainwash people into joining a military that will screw them over, especially women, glorify a military which operates under highly murky politics and procedures, and silence films that dare criticize the military by denying them funds.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-12 01:15 am (UTC)(link)The problem with any film that's funded by any party, is that it will also reflect their interests. Same as political parties being funded by 'private donors'. Captain Marvel is not the only film that's done it. Independence Day 2, Battle: Los Angeles, American Sniper. The list is massive.
