Yeah, I enjoyed her as well, even if she was mostly there because they needed someone to crawl through air ducts.

This is the second secret that compares Dany's actions to the actions of Holocaust survivors or people responding to the immediate aftermath of the holocaust. And both of em are crap

This. When character deaths aren't shown on screen there's a high probability that they didn't really die after all. That's been true since pretty much the dawn of time.

She's already been, like, multiple times I think. But in pumped for the video.

What happened to Barb: she was killed. We saw everything we needed to know in season 1. The audience knew it and the characters knew it, especially Nancy, whose entire involvement with the plot in the first season revolved around Barb, too.

The plot in season 2 was absolutely because of the fan reaction, but I'm just really tired of "what about Barb" when it was never really a mystery.

Sometimes we never completely figure out why we're drawn to certain things, OP.

I personally believe that fantasies can tell us what we need to become whole. Given that, only you are going to figure out what these particular fantasies are saying to you, OP -- but I will say that as someone who had similar fantasies for a long time, I came to realize that (as odd as it sounds) they gave me a way to see myself as strong and of value to the world.

IMO this season had some jerkass instead of him anyway, so it was almost like a show without Hopper already.

I was so bewildered by his behavior this season, especially after all of the emotional growth last season. It make absolutely zero sense to me and was so offputting to watch.

I got into Stranger Things late, but I had already heard all about Barb and Justice for Barb, etc forever. Imagine my surprise to find out that Barb kind of sucked.

Can you name all the characters, in ASOIAF or elsewhere, who believe indiscriminate slaughter is justified and who are nevertheless basically sympathetic?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-13 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yepppp

(Anonymous) 2019-07-13 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, but we'll developed character arcs aren't this show's strong point, that's for sure.

Does High School Musical count?

Why can't you compare fictional things to the Holocaust? People compare all kinds of real life events to fictional events. That is a way to explore literature.

I don't necessarily think people were saying that because they didn't realize that Barb was dead, they were saying that because the show didn't give them much closure about her death - especially where Nancy was concerned. Hence season 2.

Or, you can think of them as that girl who was born into a world where everyone was telling her that a certain group was her enemy by literally everyone she knew. Sounds sort of like a certain queen who was born into a world being told by everyone she HAD to rule Westeros and kill anyone who got in her way.

Or like the girl who had her entire family murdered because of their bloodline.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-13 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Wait...someone is trying to say that Dany responding the way she did was similar to how victims of the Holocaust responded?!?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-13 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Because Barb was relatable to a lot of audience members in a way that not many characters are

SMH

(Anonymous) 2019-07-13 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was clear (to me) by a few conversations they had earlier that it wasn't that she didn't notice the pain Nebula was in, but that she was also prioritising her own self-preservation, which it's hard for me to fault her for.
