That's for sure.

I still really want to know what they were thinking. I mean, did they just throw a dart at a board or something? Grab two names out of a hat?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-26 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't it something like they wanted keep Chakotay's actor happy, cause he felt his character was stagnant and threatened to leave (or something?) so instead of writing him actual interesting stuff, they just threw him at the fan favorite character?

Idk it was a bad idea any way you look at it.

WTF was right, especially since they had like no chemistry together. 7 of 9 had way more chemistry with "The Doctor" EMH.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-26 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
They could have paired Seven with literally any other regular character and they would have had more chemistry and made more sense than this pairing. Seven and Neelix made more sense than Seven and Chakotay.

I low-key shipped Seven and the EMH, so Seven/Chakotay was an unwelcome surprise - not worth throwing a fit over at that point, but definitely not where I expected thge show to go.

I adored Seven/Doctor. If I'd written Voyager fanfic, I would have been all about that.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Seven/Doc was such a SQUICK pairing for me. Serious heebie-jeebies. I don't care much for 7/Chakotay but the one saving grace is that it killed any chance of Seven and the Doctor from becoming canon.

I had no horse in any shipping race but yeah, the collective 'wtf' over this ship was fucking hilarious. I didn't really mind, but I absolutely got the confusion because it really did come out of nowhere.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-26 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This pairing came out of nowhere and made no sense and was extremely dull. She had far more chemistry with the Doctor, or even Harry Kim. The only person he ever came close to having what could be remotely described as romantic chemistry with was Janeway.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-26 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Seven had more chemistry with Neelix!

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked Seven best by herself. No romance needed or wanted.

I hated J/C so so so much, though. Very happy that didn't happen in canon.

I didn't like Voyager anyway so I wasn't surprised.

But, really, wasn't the whole of Endgame kind of WTF?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-26 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, Janeway, who really doesn't like time-travel and its paradoxes or the Borg, goes back in time to "fix" things and argues against doing something that will really hamper the Borg. Harry's a Captain. Chakotay and Seven are revealed to have been dating. The Doctor's name after 33 years is Joe (after his new wife's grandfather - what?) I don't think I've watched it since it first aired, but I remember being confused and irritated by practically the whole thing.

Yeah, like...there’s usually SOMEONE who ships even the most agreed-upon badly-handled ships, but I’ve never met anyone who said they liked that.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's a really great point. I've never thought about that before but it's completely true.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! You have now met one person who enjoyed the ship. Goodbye. :)

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Lol! I wasn't in the fandom (but wtf-ing all the same as a casual viewer) but that must have been lovely. :)

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
As a total outside to Trek, the sheer consistency of the agreement even in this thread is kind of hilarious and fascinating to me.

If nothing else, C/7 caused some degree of unity among rival shippers, because we all agreed that it was stupid as fuck.
cakemage: (Seven has fainted.)

[personal profile] cakemage 2019-08-27 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
If nothing else, hating C/7 is the one thing that J/7 and J/C shippers can agree on, other than the fact that Janeway is smokin' hot, that is. Personally, I like to pretend that the whole C/7 debacle (hell, all of Endgame) was nothing but a nightmare of Chakotay's that he had after eating a bowl Neelix's leftover leola root stew. When he woke up he said "What the fuck was that," and went back to treating Seven like dogshit like he always did. Then he crashed yet another shuttle and died. It was very tragic, because Voyager has only so many shuttles left to spare.

You're wrong, actually. Chakotay/Seven did have a very small group of shippers... they were kind of run out of the fandom IIRC, however. The Voyager fandom was fucking brutal.

I mean... there's like 10 pages on AO3 with the ship tagged. Some of it is probably hate fic, but it's certainly more than what most of MY ships get.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotta say, anything that made Janeway/Chakotay not happen was good in my book.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-28 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
I remember this comment and wholeheartedly agree
